I Wanna Tell you a Story
    by
    The Venetian
    Reviewed by: Rory Richardson
Edited by Cyrus Rhodes of IMD Media

A guy from Italy and his vision. He comes to Los Angeles from the country of love, pizza and music. As we all know opera music was born in Italy, and rock in the US; so he decides to put together the 2 in a way nobody did before."The Venetian" is born; a band that you don't wanna miss. The show it's a whole concept, where all the songs are connected each other by a common theme (love VS death). English rock songs that remind of Queen and Muse with in between some Acts -opera style where the language used is Italian- to connect musically better each songs and to make the whole thing more interesting. Not enough, the show is a real "show" with masks and make up on stage that will make you believe you're at the carnival in Venice.

This is The Venetian’s latest release entitled “I Wanna Tell You a Story” released in 2011 and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. This is one Los Angeles artist (originally from Italy) who brings to the table effective songwriting coupled with a passionate vocal delivery and amazing creativity. Musical flavors presented: Alternative Rock, Classic Rock, Rock Opera.

The opening set of tracks set the stage rather well for this CD. It was a great set of intro pieces that stuck in my head and had me eager for what was ahead. All in all the whole CD (presented as a rock opera theme) is brilliantly delivered. Musical overtones reminded me a bit of Styx, Queen, Alice Cooper and Maralyn Manson but much more captivating. Personally I see him as a cross between Prince, Alice Cooper and Freddie Mercury (QUEEN). There are some fantastic pieces on this CD which gives this musical production a very captivating, entertaining yet foreboding vibe. If there was one word that described The Venetian it would be “dramatic” The Venetian’s vocal presence works very well track for track and his band just grooves well together. His guitar playing is spot on and he is a brilliant writer. The meanings of these songs is buried deep between the lines no doubt. He clearly has all the singer/songwriter qualities needed to gravitate a fan base.

Favorite piece on the CD is a toss up between “My Sweet Italian Pie” and “Sometimes.”

    Song Samples from the CD
All song samples are from The Venetian page on CD Baby.
    / Act I /  Goodbye /  Act II /  The Black Cat /
Act III /  My Good Friend /  Act IV /  Sometimes /  Act V /  Dancing Angel /
/ Act VI /  My Sweet Italian Pie /  Act VII /  I Wanna Tell You I'm Sorry /

    Conclusion:
This CD is comparable to a Dramatic Motion Picture set to music. It will simply make your day more interesting, but beware The Venetian is one artists not so easily pinned down during the first listen. The strong suit of The Venetian clearly his vocal passion, strong musical variety and amazing creativity. At the end of the CD you will find yourself inspired, invigorated and on the edge of your seat.
