  •  The Independent Musicians CD Reviews

Welcome to the EvO:R Independent CD Reviews Section.
I would like to take a few minutes to introduce ourselves to everyone. The EvO:R review section features reviews from various independent musicians that submit material for our consideration.

I wanted to let you know a little about our review teams collective thoughts on music. It's important to let the people that we review know how we think of their music and how we listened to their creations.

First of all, we strongly believe that if your music stinks then the world should know about it! After all, you have the nerve to charge as much for your stuff as the majors do so it better be pretty damn good. If your material is good, we'll be glad to tell the world. I We will hold nothing back! That is a promise.

     Artist: Sweet Wednesday
     Album: Wherever You Go
A review by Jef Peace - Senior Partner, PeaceWork Music

Sweet Wednesday is comprised of founders Lisa Housman and Dave Falk and a fluid back-up band of various musicians.

    Genre: Folk-Rock
    Release Date: 2006

Dave and Lisa have similar styles, strongly rooted in American Folk, but each has a unique style and therefore a unique sound. Lisa's vocals remind me of an early Alanis Morisette, (very early, while she was still singing from the heart) and Dave's vocals remind me a bit of Bob Dylan. This album is a back-and-forth seesaw ride through some very good songs with solid lyrics and melodies.

However, given the vastly different styles, I'd have to recommend future albums be either/or, or at the very least, all one for the first half then the other for the second half. I found it difficult to get a very good feel of either artist as the album was published, so I ripped the cd and listened to each seperately. By doing that, I found I actually liked Dave and Lisa both for different reasons.

Lisa's songs are sweet, pure, innocent and a bit naive. I find her songs thoroughly enjoyable and they create a mood of remeniscence taking me back to another time when I was young and the world lay before me, full of fun, excitement and adventure. Dave's songs are a bit rougher and have a hint of cynisism that I relate to. I find his songs thoroughly enjoyable as well, but instead of taking me back, they make me want to look forward. The past is past and the future is still waiting for me to decide what I want to do with it.

    Song Samples from the CD
All song samples are from Sweat Wednesday's page on CD Baby.
/ Mid-Morning Rain /  (Lisa, I'm Sorry I Brought You to) New York City /  Going Over Brooklyn /  Pacific Shores  /  How Can I Know?  /  Wherever You Go  /  Winter Hill  /  McDonald's  /  February Snow /  Lost Without A Clue /  Crazy That It Rained Again /  San Francisco  /  Grandma  /  Hold Me Close /

    Conclusion:
Overall, I'm of mixed emotions regarding the album. It's certainly worth owning, but I would never listen to it from start to finish because the two styles are so different. However, listening to one then the other is a very satisfying musical experience for me. If I were rating on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it an 8.
