When I opened the reviews section to the general public to write reviews of a few of the CD's in this section I didn't expect that band members or close friends of the band would be writing reviews for the artist. So to have a little fun I will post what each reviewer said then put my comments in blue underneath. I am only doing this to set an example. If the band was not involved in this I am sorry. If they were, then let this be a lesson to them.

    >>>>After listening to this band live, I had to check out their CD. The whole EP is "solid" as far as sound and song writing. With the exclusion of the opening track, all the songs maintain an "Alt-Pop" style while being unique in song writing.<<<

Did you see them live in the back yard or in the garage? If you like mindless bar chords and juvenile lyrics this band is for you. Nothing unique about bar chords.

    >>>>>All the songs maintain a catchy pop-chorus without the selling of anyone's "soul" to the record company. This is hard to do, but Son of the State has managed to pull it off. These teens are going somewhere.<<<<

The statement is an oxymoron. They won't sell their souls to the record company but they are going somewhere. If they are going somewhere (meaning getting signed to a label) then they have sold their collective souls.

    >>>> The recording quality on this EP is surprisingly fantastic. This is very well produced. This is quality I would expect to hear on any radio.<<<<<

Not on any radio station I know about. Maybe an obscure college station that broadcasts to 200 students. Radio stations typically broadcast at a lower resolution then standard 44.1khz CD quality. Many radio stations compress their signal to 128KB for transmission. This is 35 times more compressed then standard CD's. That said, you just blasted the recording quality and didn't even know it.

    >>>> I can't give them a "5" because no band ever deserves a 5-star rating.<<<<

What? Ever heard of Led Zepplin? Eric Clapton? How about Dire Straights or Tracy Chapman? Even Indie stars Sacred Rite? Plenty of quality material out there. You need to explore music beyond the MP3 files in your MP3 player.

    >>>>>However, the song writing is good, the quality is good, and the overall production is fantastic. I would go with a "4" star with the understanding that these are TEENAGERS and not professionals. If these kids were out of college, I would give it a 3. "30 Minutes" is still stuck in my head.<<<<<<

Not a bad comment above. They are just kids and that is why they would put other friends up to writing reviews for them.

    >>>>Lights is probably the most under-rated teenage band song I've ever heard. These guys have serious potential. The pop hooks in these songs are way too good. The whole album, especially "Lights" and "30 Minutes" is VERY well produced. I highly recommend this CD. <<<<<<<<

At least he tried to sound like he wasn't best friends with the band members. He actually sounded believable for a sentence.

    >>>>>The recording quality is surprisingly very good for a bunch of kids. It's good as anything I hear on the radio. The production on this EP is also very well, and it's obvious there was of time put into this.<<<<

You forgot to mention that their Dad paid for the recording gear. The radio comment was the same as the review above. I thought maybe more then one orginal thought was possible (but I was wrong). BTW what radio station plays alternative punk anyhow?

    >>>> 5-Stars. I don't normally EVER rate a CD 5-Stars but seeing how kids wrote this, this is for sure 5-Star. These guys are going to go places.
    William Thompson <<<<<<

Great job William, you sounded just like J Micheals. I'm sorry to say this, but the band is a 2 star at best band. The music features first year musicians and 11th grade lyrics in a punk/rock idiom. They will grow out of this music before any label shows any interest in them. With any luck they will make good grades and go off to college and get a degree in something other then garage band rock.
Charlie Harrelson - Founder of EVOR

Note: The band did not deserve this reaction from me. They are young players with minimal skills but they sound like they are having a good time playing together. Once their collective musical vocabulary increases I think we will hear better material from this up and coming group. The first Beatles record wasn't a masterpiece yet they changed rock music over the next 6 years. You never know!

Son of the State could start by not having their friends write predictable reviews for them.
