The Unveiling
by Saint to Sinner
Behind the curtain of the Unveiling, we have yet another band who, in all their promotional material, claims to be creating a
new and original sound. Bollocks!! There is no such thing. This is pissed off Christian music! At least three quarters of
the band is pissed off anyway. I could not listen to the entire record.
Though Desiree Villegas has a sweet ‘young girls’ voice, there were a few times during the first two tracks that I was
asking myself –‘Why?’ I could not get past the poor choice of harmonies and the pitchy lead vocal. Desiree’s voice
actually sounds ‘ok’ when it stands alone but the more layers that are added, the worse it gets.
Drummer, Nick Tolias, is playing beyond his skill set or maybe they didn’t have enough time in the studio to make corrections.
If you are going to play blazing double bass with monstrous fills, solid meter is a must or else all is lost.
Often, when I find a group that has potential but has evident flaws in their execution, I like to do a search to
see if they have any more recent material available. Many groups clear these details up between one disc to another.
I can forgive first efforts, especially in the independent realm, because good producers or that educated second pair
of ears are rarely available to those on a short budget.
Unfortunately, Saint to Sinner’s follow up effort ‘Conceived’ isn’t much better. Again, I find myself asking –‘Why?’
The group released slightly different versions of the same bunch of songs in a different order. I don’t get it.
I have often done demos and released them to friends and family or even close fans. Then, later, when the material or
the band is polished up, record an official release of the same or similar material. I don’t think that is an unusual process.
Releasing continual official releases of the same material is a waste of time and money.
I commend this group for their positive message and for following Christian ideals but I don’t think anyone is
going to receive the message. I can see where the band wants to go and I think that there is hope to achieve it
but it’s going to be vital that Saint to Sinner spend some time honing their ability further or perhaps simplify
their music a bit. There is nothing wrong with simpler music if it sounds good and conveys a message or creates
an emotion. I would rather listen to something simple and polished than something overzealous that sounds
like it is heading for a train wreck.

Conclusion:
Saint to Sinner would do well to buy a metronome, send Desiree to a few months of power vocal training,
then get back in the rehearsal studio to write some new songs. The players in this group have talent but
they need more work.
I prefer not to give this record a rating. I could not subject myself to listen to much more than 2 songs.
There may be a gem somewhere on the record but I will never find it. Hypothetically, The Unveiling could
get a C if, in fact, the several songs that I didn’t get to kick ass.

Jimmy Caterine...EvO:R Reviewer.
About the reviewer- Jimmy Caterine has numerous album credits to his name. He is most noted as founder, guitarist and co-writer for
80’s metal quartet, Sacred Rite (Capitol Records.) He has worked with top name professionals in the industry.
This would include Grammy Award winning producer Sonny Limbo (Bertie Higgins) and publishing coordinator Randall Wixen
(Fleetwood Mac, Jackson Brown.)
Aside from his original projects he did a 3 month stint playing guitar for the live stage production of Rocky Horror
Picture Show in 1987. He was the guitarist for MGM recording artist and power house vocalist, Sami Jo Cole (Tell Me a Lie)
in 1995. He has also played with classic rock tribute act Time Machine, on the Las Vegas convention circuit in ’97 and ’98.
Following a car accident in 2001 Jimmy Caterine took a break from performing. He was reluctant to return to the stage due to PTSD.
In the years that followed Jimmy took an inward journey to confront his own personal demons. While away he had to come to terms
with the many changes in the music industry. During his hiatus he created and released two independent solo CD’s.
In 2007 Jimmy recorded and released a reunion CD with Sacred Rite.
Currently Jimmy owns Soulaire Sound which is a mobile recording/live sound reinforcement company in Phoenix, AZ.
He performs regularly with his organic jazz sextet, Dream Chemistry.
