  •  The Independent Musicians CD Reviews

Welcome to the EvO:R Independent CD Reviews Section.
I would like to take a few minutes to introduce ourselves to everyone. The EvO:R review section features reviews from various independent musicians that submit material for our consideration.

I wanted to let you know a little about our review teams collective thoughts on music. It's important to let the people that we review know how we think of their music and how we listened to their creations.

First of all, we strongly believe that if your music stinks then the world should know about it! After all, you have the nerve to charge as much for your stuff as the majors do so it better be pretty damn good. If your material is good, we'll be glad to tell the world. I We will hold nothing back! That is a promise.

     The Monsters Kiss
    by Tim Ryan O’Kane
    Reviewed by Rory Richardson
    Edited by Cyrus Rhodes

This is O’Kanes’ latest release entitled “The Monsters Kiss” released in 2011 and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. This is one New York artist that brings to the table effective songwriting coupled with a passionate vocal delivery and amazing creativity. Musical flavors presented: Alternative Rock.

The opening track "Lullaby” sets the stage rather well for this CD. It was a great intro piece that stuck in my head and had me eager for what was ahead. All in all the whole CD (presented as a theme) is brilliantly delivered via a concept album format. Musical overtones reminded me a bit of Radiohead but much more darker and captivating. Personally I see him as a cross between Trent Reznor (NIN), Maynard James Keenan (TOOL) and maybe some Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots). There are some fantastic pieces on this CD which gives this musical production a dark and foreboding vibe. O’Kane’s vocal presence works very well track for track, & his band just grooves well together. The meanings of these songs is buried deep between the lines no doubt. He clearly has all the singer/songwriter qualities needed to gravitate a fan base as well. Favorite piece on the CD is a toss up between “Running from the Swarm” and “Trying to Fly.”

    Conclusion:
This CD will simply make your day more interesting, but beware O Kane is one artists not so easily pinned down during the first listen. The strong suit of O’Kane clearly his vocal passion, strong musical variety and amazing creativity. It’s obvious he feels comfortable letting it all hang out on every track. At the end of the CD you will find yourself inspired, invigorated & in a darker mood than you were 45 minutes prior.
