    EP – Stars are Out
    Reviewed by: Rory Richardson

This is Monks of Mellonwah’s latest EP release entitled “Start are Out.” Released in 2011 and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. This is one band that brings to the table effective songwriting with high-energy punk rock delivery. This band is also known for their powerful live performances around the Australia area. Members include Will Maher (Vocals), Joe de la Hoyde (Guitar), John de la Hoyde (Bass), Josh Baissari (Drums and Backing Vocals).

The opening track "Fire in the Hole” sets the stage rather well for this EP. It was a great intro piece which melted my face rather appropriately and had me focused for what lied ahead. All in all the whole EP is wonderfully simple yet rock solid. Music reminded me a little of Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers and even Sevendust. There are some fantastic grooves on this CD which gives this band a modern jam band vibe. Maher’s vocal presence works track for track and the whole band just grooves well together. Kudos goes out to the blazing guitar skills of Joe de la Hoyde. When it comes right don to it – this is a solid band with good chops and a marketable sound well positioned for success.

    Conclusion:
My only criticism with this release: the overall sound quality. It sounds like it was recorded live either at the studio or during a soundcheck. But maybe that’s what they were trying to shoot for: capturing the spontaneity of a Live Jam Band feel. Either way this EP hit’s it’s mark. This is hard to do is a studio setting. If the sound quality was up to snuff this CD would no doubt be a 9 or 10.

Rating: 6 stars out of 10..Perfect!!!!!
