Prone To Wander
by
Kurt Prond
Reviewed by: Jimmy Caterine
"Kurt, as is perceived quickly when listening to his performance, is very serious about what
he does and he has an honorable message that reoccurs in many of his songs. Kurt does not follow
the beaten path; he does not share in the "American Dream." Rooting his music in the theme of living a truly personal life,
with personal goals and ambitions; Kurt accomplishes not only some well crafted lyricism, but a melody that accompanies
his words like a glove." -Abrahm Neuser
Before I get started on my review, I’d like to apologize for my tardiness. I received this CD a long time
ago and while searching behind my recording desk I discovered that my 8 month old Savannah cat has been
hiding many goodies for me to find at a later date. Prone to Wander happens to be one of those goodies.
This record has a great ‘sitting on a hillside’ feel to it. Mostly acoustic guitar and vocal, it speaks
with true passion. In the tradition of classic singer/songwriters like Paul Simon and Seals & Crofts,
this record is free sounding and speaks with nature. It is very pleasant to listen to and conjures many
images in my mind of wide open spaces like fields and dreams.
Kurt Prond is a fantastic songwriter. It is definitely the songs that make this record what it is. The
arrangement and order of the songs bring this record to life and sets the listener on a journey –something
many records today don’t quite accomplish.
The production is simple. There are no big musical arrangements but it doesn’t matter. The artist gets his
point across well with his restraint.
If you are in the mood for something relaxing that you can sit back and close your eyes and wonder through
the fields of your mind, this record is for you.
Every song is as good as the one before it. The only downside – it is mellow all the way through, which I
don’t mind. But it is a point that I want to pass on to the reader as this is a ‘mood’ record.

Conclusion:
Conclusion: Kurt Prond writes great songs –no question there. Although, the thought that came to mind was
‘why not shop these songs to a major artist to record?’ Kurt Prond seems more suited as a songwriter than
a performing artist. I’m not taking anything away from his performance on Prone to Wander. It is great!
But I am ‘prone to wonder’ what these songs might sound like with ‘big production.’
My guess is there is a hit or two here and unfortunately the world may never know as good indie artists
rarely get the recognition they deserve.
Rating
Kurt Prond –Prone to Wander gets 8 out of 10 from the Cat.

About the reviewer- Jimmy Caterine has numerous album credits to his name. He is most noted as founder, guitarist and co-writer for
80’s metal quartet, Sacred Rite (Capitol Records.) He has worked with top name professionals in the industry.
This would include Grammy Award winning producer Sonny Limbo (Bertie Higgins) and publishing coordinator Randall Wixen
(Fleetwood Mac, Jackson Brown.)
Aside from his original projects he did a 3 month stint playing guitar for the live stage production of Rocky Horror
Picture Show in 1987. He was the guitarist for MGM recording artist and power house vocalist, Sami Jo Cole (Tell Me a Lie)

In the years that followed Jimmy took an inward journey to confront his own personal demons. While away he had to come to terms
with the many changes in the music industry. During his hiatus he created and released two independent solo CD’s.
In 2007 Jimmy recorded and released a reunion CD with Sacred Rite.
Currently Jimmy owns Soulaire Sound which is a mobile recording/live sound reinforcement company in Phoenix, AZ.
He performs regularly with his organic jazz sextet, Dream Chemistry.
