The Independent Musicians CD Reviews
Welcome to the EvO:R Independent CD Reviews Section.
I would like to take a few minutes to introduce ourselves to everyone.
The EvO:R review section features reviews from various independent musicians that submit
material for our consideration.
I wanted to let you know a little about our review teams collective thoughts on music. It's
important to let the people we review know what we think of their music and how we listened
to their creations.
We hold nothing back! The team has been instructed to be honest and respectful of all CD's reviewed.

Blue I Soul
by
J Trey
Reviewed by: JT Baker, San Francisco CA
Blue I Soul is the 3rd studio album from Iowa's own J Trey. This album has 2 parts, part 1 is older material remixed,
and part 2 is new material. Several genres are crossed throughout the course of this album, R&B to Hip Hop, Blue Eyed Soul to Jam.
Before I start any review I feel compelled to find the group online, I
like to read the bio’s while I listen to the CD J. Trey is comprised of three vocalists.
Jasmine, JT and JB. The male vocals are somewhat average. The female tracks however
are above average. Although her range seems somewhat limited what she does with her voice
is very good. One of the issues I have with hip hop (and many rock and country )
records is lack of diversity. This Cd has a great feel and it leaves the listener
somewhat comfortable It was not until the fifth track “the reason” that I felt that
something finally changed. Most of the time I wont let a Cd get past the third tune
if it does not grab my attention.
In this case I was glad I waited a bit. Had I tossed the CD as I normally do, I would have missed
really cool tunes like” Rhythm and Booze” or” tell me if I’m right.
Tell me if I’m right had me kind of reminiscing about the days of the Commodores and
maybe a little KC. Well without the rap parts.
All in all this record ain’t half bad. I will keep this one for my collection.
26 songs on this CD is like a bargain. I for one will keep an eye on this group.
It’s hard to predict if Jt Rey? Or J trey will go very far but I sure dug it.
As far as the studio work went I didn’t hear anything that caught my attention.
Usually when listening I can find something that I would perhaps do different
or better. I don’t get that felling with this recording. But wait. Oh yeah.
Everything seemed to be sequenced. Except maybe the acoustic guitar.

Conclusion:
Limited vocalist's and sequenced samples is not grounds for great music. Considering the genre I would
admit that the material was interesting and kept my attention. I must admit now that when I first saw the
CD I thought it was a solo release from JJ Grey, not J Trey. JJ Grey is the guitarist for the Florida
Swamp-Blues outfit called Mofro. Amazing what a couple misplaced letter can do to you.
