I haven't played an acoustic guitar in 20 years but after listening to Jeff Cochell I am inspired to
go out and purchase one. Jeff is an amazing guitar player and songwriter. He sounds a little like Clapton when he
gets mellow. Check out track 3 'Only if the Sun Don't Shine' if you don't believe me.
The addition of Donna Davis on backing vocals really adds another dimension to the songs she was included on.
This was in part to the fact that Jeff's voice was a bit limited. Fortunatly his guitar playing and great song writing skills
kept me interested in every song.
Jeff should shop his music in Nashville or L.A. and have a real pro signing his songs. They are works of art that need to be heard.
I'm afraid that Jeff is not going to make it with his voice but his song writing skills could take him to the top of the charts some day.
In the Studio:
The reverb in Jeff's voice bothered me. It wasn't obvious because I hardly noticed it on the first listen. After 2 sittings I started noticing it more and by the 3rd listen I spent more time bothered by
the vocal effects and disconnected with the music and great story lines.
Conclusion:
If Jeff could find someone in Nashville to shop his music he could be a wealthy man one day. His music is just shy of brilliant
but his voice won't take him to the promised land.
I give this a solid CD 3 stars. 4 stars if Donna Davis was the main vocalist.
