  •  The Independent Musicians CD Reviews

Welcome to the EvO:R Independent CD Reviews Section.
I would like to take a few minutes to introduce ourselves to everyone. The EvO:R review section features reviews from various independent musicians that submit material for our consideration.

I wanted to let you know a little about our review teams collective thoughts on music. It's important to let the people that we review know how we think of their music and how we listened to their creations.

First of all, we strongly believe that if your music stinks then the world should know about it! After all, you have the nerve to charge as much for your stuff as the majors do so it better be pretty damn good. If your material is good, we'll be glad to tell the world. I We will hold nothing back! That is a promise.

Over the years I have had a couple CDs sent to me that were percussion based productions. After about 4 or 5 songs listener fatique begins to set in and I find myself skipping through songs or stopping the CD with the intent of returning at a later time. When this CD arrived I cringed because it was a percussion based DOUBLE CD! Oh my, how could I give an honest review to a CD that I know would have me fast forwarding through tracks by the 5th or 6th song?

So with a prejudged opinion right from the start this double CD effort had no chance of getting past the screening process. This CD not only got past the screening process it was one of the best listening experiences I have had since the Resurrection CD review from Sacred Rite. The Sacred Rite CD has been reviewed as the BEST INDIE CD of 2009 and has been at the top of that list since the original review. This CD is not far behind and will be added to our Top 25 Independent CD Section by the time this review is published.

Drum Dynasty is a cutting edge drum CD that showcases advanced odd measure drum compositions meshed with worldly techno music. The music from this CD was broken into two groups. Light on the first CD and darker on the second. The first CD had me captivated by the sounds. Although the CD was a percussion based offering the group used additional non-percussive instruments to keep my interest in the musical story line while expanding my musical awareness with incredible rhythms and odd meter excitement.

Bruce Burgess recently teamed up with Seattle percussionists Arturo Rodriguez, Marco Zonka & movie composer Kevin Christensen for "Drum Dynasty". The double CD explores African, Algerian, Haitian, Greek, & Arabic rhythms with hints of Yanvanlou, Masmoudi, Adowa, Hemiola, & Santeria along the way.

CD number 1 titled 'Mystic Sunrise' was very musicial and kept me very involved in the stories the artists wanted to tell. CD number 2 titled 'Dark Continent' was more hardcore percussive and a few songs where a bit repetitive for my tastes but I still made it through disc #2 without stopping once.

The production of this CD was first class. My hats off to the whole production crew including Mixer Sam Hofstedt, Engineer Joel Martin, Executive Producer Cyrus Rhodes, Mastering by Rick Fisher. If you own a quality audio system (not a Home Theater in a Box system) you MUST own this CD. My speakers exposed sonic brilliance and detail that is hard to define. It was simply an amazing listening adventure.

The CD is available at CD Baby for only $12.97 this is a bargain! Your musicial awareness will rise and your audio system will thank you.

/Anuket (godess of the Nile) /Dance of the 7 Veils/

    Conclusion:
This CD gets my highest recommendation. I have only given this recommendation 4 times in 9 years so you know this CD is worth owning. At the price of 12.97 for a double disc you can't go wrong. Sorry, no MP3 offerings at this time and I don't blame them. This CD doesn't need compression because that would ruin the sonic brilliance the artists and engineers strived for. Forget that ipod and pop this CD into your CD player. Your ears will be amazed...I PROMISE!
