How about 20 songs dedicated to the love of ones mother? You have to give somebody two thumbs up just for that effort.
Most of Carol's songs have a child like feel to them. Almost a nursery rhyme ment to entertain children under the age of 7.
The sad poetry of 'No Wishes' had a shot at breaking free of the playground mentality of the other songs but unfortunatly
by the end of the first verse the tempo and feel reverted back to 3rd grade play time.
Carol put a lot of work and effort into releasing a collection of 20 songs for this CD. The problem is, none of the songs are good
enough to appeal to the contemporary audience the release was intended to reach. I would strongly suggest that Carol enters into the childrens music genre as she has that happy go lucky style that makes
young children feel good and sing alone.
In the Studio
Recorded at 17th Street Recording Studio, Costa Mesa, CA.
Vocal Harmonies was recorded at Custom Taylored Studios, Fountain Valley, CA. The CD sounded a bit over produced with way to much reverb in the vocals as well as the harmonized vocals. I'm not a huge fan of drenching vocals in reverb and this offering did not convience me otherwise. This seems to show a lack of confidence in the singers voice. It's almost as if the producer was trying to cover up something.
A good clean vocal recording will cut through a mix much better then one drenched in effects.
The acoustic guitars sounded clean and crisp and most of the instrumentation was snappy and had some punch to it.
Conclusion:
As I said before, Carol needs to switch gears and focus her music towards grammer school children. She has that elementary school appeal in her song style and her singing. Don't fight the system with serious songs when your style is deeply rooted in elementary
rhyme.
The CD gets 2 1/2 stars.
