  •  The Independent Musicians CD Reviews

Welcome to the EvO:R Independent CD Reviews Section.
I would like to take a few minutes to introduce ourselves to everyone. The EvO:R review section features reviews from various independent musicians that submit material for our consideration.

I wanted to let you know a little about our review teams collective thoughts on music. It's important to let the people that we review know how we think of their music and how we listened to their creations.

First of all, we strongly believe that if your music stinks then the world should know about it! After all, you have the nerve to charge as much for your stuff as the majors do so it better be pretty damn good. If your material is good, we'll be glad to tell the world. I We will hold nothing back! That is a promise.

     Buffaload -
    by Bob Wire

Lyrically Entertaining and Honky Tonk Approved. The new CD from Bob Wire has more one liners then Dizzy Dean had pitches.

Wire calls his music "Maximum Honky Tonk, and it ain’t no background music." I would have to agree. This is not the music you will want to listen to while reading a book or trying to mellow out and go to sleep. Buffaloload is a good old fashion trip down southern fried country music with a splash of Bo Diddley Rock and a story to tell on every track.

The great country story tellers of our past s/a Johnny Cash and Buck Owens are smiling at the mention of this CD which takes the listener through all phases of adult living. Written, produced and recorded by Wire in his home studio, the “Hilltop Basement Recording Complex and Grille,” Buffaload takes on the sound and feel of a down home recording. The CD showed no signs of the dreaded recording studio pressure that accompanies many higher priced studio productions. It also lacked the cutting edge production quality that those upscale studios can deliver (but who cares about that right now).

After listening to this CD a few times I came to enjoy the stories more then the music. Wire is not a great vocalist (nor was Johnny Cash) but his voice grew on me over a couple listens. I was attracted to a number of his comments like the one on the song 'Honey'. The song was about the people in this country that are homeless, being downsized or unemployed. In a Springstein like manner Wire hits the nail on the head with "in the land of milk and honey we just need a little bread". I could not get that out of my head for weeks. In a time of unemployment nearing 10% this song really hits home. He also kicked it into high gear by saying “Millions of Americans are living off the grid. We don’t give a damn how the stock market did.”

Another great line from the CD was "California had the fourty-niners, you had 10,000 whores and miners. This used to be the richest hill on earth but everybody knows what a hole is worth." Talk about a comment that reaches globally. I thought about our countries political situation and our uncontrollable national debt. The United States of America was once the richest country on earth, now it's drowning in a huge hole of debt and no political leaders have the strength to say "enough is enough".

Not every song was politically motivated. Wire never calls anyone out or tries to make an obvious personal political statement. He was just making observations about the human condition and putting those observations to music. Wire covers the gambit of human emotions from anger, sadness to pee-your-pants funny.

Finally, a huge shout out for the song 'eryy's place'. This song included a duet that was sensational at the least! This song is a winner.

    /Lonesome Dreams /My Soul's Coming Loose /erry's Place/
    /Go Butte! /Una Mas Cerveza /Vision In Neon/
    /Finding Barbie's Shoes /

    Conclusion:
Bob Wire is an average singer, but he knows how to tell a great story. If only he would get a contact or agent in Nashville to represent his music to some of the major established artists. I could hear artists like Hank Williams Jr, Raschel Flats, B.J.Richardson even Charlie Daniels and others taking these great ballads of the human experience and making one hit song after another.
