  •  The Independent Musicians CD Reviews

Welcome to the EvO:R Independent CD Reviews Section.
I would like to take a few minutes to introduce ourselves to everyone. The EvO:R review section features reviews from various independent musicians that submit material for our consideration.

I wanted to let you know a little about our review teams collective thoughts on music. It's important to let the people that we review know how we think of their music and how we listened to their creations.

First of all, we strongly believe that if your music stinks then the world should know about it! After all, you have the nerve to charge as much for your stuff as the majors do so it better be pretty damn good. If your material is good, we'll be glad to tell the world. I We will hold nothing back! That is a promise.

     Ab Intra
    by Blue Delusion

    Blue Delusion – Ab Intra
“Ab Intra is a dark depiction of a musician trying to find his place in the world. Ab Intra is latin for "From Within", and the lyrics are very personal and real. Acoustic and some experimental electronic music are featured, tackling issues of caring for a younger brother in need, to getting over a father's death, and to feeling a general discontent for the midwest generic prescription. A must to check out for anyone wanting to hear something real this year.” Promotional editorial- I am going to get right to the point here.

First of all, I expected something completely different after looking at the packaging. Though it is dark (much like the lyrical content), the ‘packaging’ is very slick and professional. In other words, I was not at all impressed with this CD.

I feel for Trevor Braukman. Listening to his lyrics, tells me he has not had an easy time, but I think as an artist, he should seriously consider straight poetry or spoken word. The track, ‘True Love Is Hard to Find’, has a spoken word quality with just a simple beat and keyboard loop behind it. It was also the only track that was listenable for me.

Most of Ab Intra contains vocal and acoustic guitar as the main or only instruments. Lyrically, Trevor has a lot to say and express, and I think he should. Though, I seriously feel he needs another outlet in which to do it. Most of the ‘musical’ basics are missing here, important things, like tempo, playing in key and singing in pitch.

    Song Samples from the CD
All song samples are from Blue Delusion page on CD Baby.
/ La Pluie  / Sunlight Will Burn  / State of Affairs  / No Means To the Ends  / Run Away  / True Love Is Hard To Find  / Shadows In the Graveyard  / Fade Away  / Anthem  / Burlington  / Osceola Ave  / Towers  / Le Fin Du Chemin  /

    Conclusion:
Alice in Chains, Staind, Opeth, and Days of the New are dark. Blue Delusion is just bad. I would have to be completely strung out on smack before recommending this CD to anyone. -Jimmy Caterine
