  •  The Independent Musicians CD Reviews

Welcome to the EvO:R Independent CD Reviews Section.
I would like to take a few minutes to introduce ourselves to everyone. The EvO:R review section features reviews from various independent musicians that submit material for our consideration.

I wanted to let you know a little about our review teams collective thoughts on music. It's important to let the people that we review know how we think of their music and how we listened to their creations.

First of all, we strongly believe that if your music stinks then the world should know about it! After all, you have the nerve to charge as much for your stuff as the majors do so it better be pretty damn good. If your material is good, we'll be glad to tell the world. I We will hold nothing back! That is a promise.

     Music for the Modern Monkey

    The Review
This is LA based Backnbloom’s latest effort entitled “Music for the Modern Monkey” released in 2011 and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. This is one band that brings to the table effective songwriting via a high-energy dance-pop delivery. Band members include Lori Steele (Vocals) and Alberto Beka (Programming and Instrumentation).

The opening track "Heed the Flashes” and this piece sets the stage rather well for this CD. It was a great intro piece which had me well focused for what lied ahead. All in all the whole CD is wonderfully simple and solid. Music reminded me a little of No Doubt, Pink, Garbage and even Joan Jett. There are some fantastic grooves on this CD which gives this band a modern indie party vibe.

Steele’s vocal presence works well track for track and Beka’s production touches and brush strokes are brilliant. These 2 groove together no doubt.
    Song Samples from the CD
All song samples from Backnblooms’ – Music for the Modern Monkey are available on I-Tunes site: http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/music-for-the-modern-monkey/id466045082

    1. Heed the Flashes
    2. Start Again
    3. Slip Away
    4. The Feel
    5. Empty Spaces
    6 Flicker
    7. Venice
    8. King of the Radio
    9. Hollywood Blvd. (Remix)

    Conclusion:
My only criticism: the songs are a bit repetitive. To be honest, it’s hard to tell one song from the next. My advice: Expand the band line-up a bit more in the studio environment perhaps like you do live environment thus providing more musical instrumentation and variety for the listener.
