Roberto Luz and Friends on EvO:R
Robert Luz- is another of our fine International artists. He lives in "paradise" and has invited me to visit every time we talk.
I wish I could, but life isn't that simple over here. He has spent most of his adult life playing music with various artists
that cross his path in "paradise" and his music reflects his additude.
Roberto Luz was proudly added to the Elite Veterns Of Rock in early 2005.
Bio/Info
Tired of the same old music? Enter the Magical world of the Roberto Luz Band, a gathering of
musical influences from around the world. Climb aboard the musical ship. It will take you along,
sometimes floating like a feather, sometimes charging along on a desert camel ride. We´re on
the road to Paradise..
Roberto Luz has been known around the lake for many years for playing the electric flute with
many different groups of musicians. He has produced three Cd's, the first two mostly recorded solo.
This time he has written music for and with different musicians as part of the Discos Atitlán
cooperative.
The music is very eclectic. You will float like a feather at one moment and find yourself charging across the sand on the back of a camel the next. The styles vary from trippy World jazz to concert rock to experimental blends of everything in between, driven by Roberto Luz's Electric Flute and delivered by a host of excellent musicians.
This might be the most organic Band in history. Roberto Luz lives on Lake Atitlan, in the Guatemalan highlands, on the edge of paradise. The Gringo trail is close by, so there are always plenty of musicians of every kind traveling through. Some stay for awhile and eventually end up playing with the band for a season or two.
Together we have formed Discos Atitlan, a musicians cooperative, to help each other record the diverse sounds of the many wonderful musicians that live and travel through here. The Mambo Balam Band is a result of this musical experiment.
The current Band

Bruce Deselle: Guitars and Bass

The Road to Paradise
© 2006 Roberto Luz
In the year 2012 an everyday boy (Arturo) meets an everyday girl (Yoshia) at a Vibe bar when he spots
her as she's being strapped into an xstazy machine. He walks over and with one glance convinces her that
she would rather talk to him than do it mechanically, so they go off together to The Emerald Forest, a
dance and romance club in the industrial section. After a night together, they fall in love, get married,
get an apartment and are starting to have children when Our Brother announces a new energy war and
Arturo is placed in the position of either joining the army to go fight in Mongolia or joining a peacers
brigade and shipping off to the moon to mine heavy metals.

Recorded in 1999, Jambu was the first CD of Roberto's own music that he produced. Roberto had done four cassettes by then,
but this was a whole, new world. It was recorded on a Tascam 1/2" 8 track and the Tascam was pushed to the limit,
bouncing things around and trying for new sounds. Most of the tracks were recorded in the depths of the
night alone, laying on the layers. "I´m very happy with the results" say Roberto.
This Record includes the "Jambu Island Suite", a series of Audio/Visual hallucinations.
(You will need to provide your own visuals.)
