Resident started in 2001 by taking over the ailing Stepping Stone Studios, which was at one time a leading studio in the busy Willesden music scene and had a substantial studio complex, albeit deserted. The downturn in the music industry over the next few years claimed many other local studios as the record companies started to tighten their belts and more artists were recording their material at home. Over the next few years, Resident developed the idea of a community of local bands who rehearsed there and could collaborate on projects, thus creating a network of unsigned artists. It was natural that the next step would be to create demos for the new bands and help them propergate their music through the swiftly evolving social media phenomena.

The recording facilities developed over the years from original 2? tape to the now industry standard Pro Tools rigs and has expanded to three recording suites which can adapt to patch in to any one of four live rooms.

Bell Sound is unique in many ways. Our founder, Bill Bell, was considered to be an inspirational genius in the voice over community. Anyone who was anyone in the voice over community in the 60's and 70's came to Bill. When he opened his doors in 1965, Burgess Meredith, Orson Welles, Gary Owens, Jack Angel, John Erwin, Joanie Gerber, Mel Blanc and John Huston were fixtures at Bell Sound. Bill was also quite a creative force in commercial radio production. His engineers were put to the test as they tried to keep up with his demanding creative ideas.

In more recent decades, various movies, television shows and commercials were recorded at Bell Sound. Our rooms were filled with the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Jack Lemmon, Richard Dreyfuss, Jack Palance, Leonard Nimoy and many others. These days, actors Tim Robbins, Brad Pitt, Dermot Mulroney, Angela Bassett, Mathew McConaughey, Brendan Fraser, Vince Vaughn, Ben Affleck, Catherine Oxenberg, and Val Kilmer work on various projects at Bell Sound.

But we are more than just audio post production. Music has always been a big part of the Bell Sound scene. Great artists such as Barry White, Anita Baker, Johnny Cash, Hubert Laws, Stephen Stills, Freddie Hubbard, Paul Anka, Lola Falana, Sammy Nestico, Hal Blaine, Backstreet Boys, Brian Wilson, Dianne Schurr, and BB King have all been through the door of Bell Sound's Studio A. And if those walls could talk… we would have to kill them. But let us not forget the lesser-known incredible studio musicians that have played on the thousands of jingles and movie sound tracks recorded and mixed at Bell Sound.
