What if Charlie’s Angels could sing? The answer to that question is
Ripe, a hot East Village based band performing at various venues in
NYC. Songwriters Christa McNamee and Dan Bar Hava first joined forces in
November of 1999. Those early collaborations grew into an eight-piece band.
Christa’s vocal styling have been compared to a Cranberries/Paula Cole/Dido mix.
Dan dubs the music "progressive pop", citing influences such as Moby and Enigma.
When a group sits down to write the material to record and perform, normally one style becomes the dominant format that defines their sound. Not so with R.I.P.E., an acronym for Reveling In Perpetual Evolution. As the name implies, this band refuses to be tied to any one genre. The compositions are a result of a marriage between the male backing musicians, and the fronting female vocalists… in particular, musical arranger and keyboardist Dan Bar Hava and vocalist Christa McNamee. "We are determined not to be pigeon-holed to any one sound, or be labeled one particular type of entity" explains Dan. "We want to entertain, see people enjoying themselves, and enjoying music again". "And we want to enjoy what we are doing too" adds Christa. "if we want to write jazz, we will write jazz… if Dan or Seth brings something classical in, we embellish upon that. If a pop, Latin or dance arrangement comes into the flow, we entertain writing that style too."
"Every artist has their own significant way of saying something that someone will
hear when they need to. For example, when I first listened to John Lennon's Imagine,
I knew immediately how it made me feel. It brought out certain emotions and thoughts
like 'exactly... that's what I would say too!'. I have since remade that song in my own
way too, because the message is something I strongly believe in. Everyone is the same,
everyone is equal. Everyone is loved." So who does he sound like? "Well, I've had people compare me to artists like Phil
Collins, Savage Garden, Enrique Iglesias, George Michael and even Bon Jovi. I don't
see that myself. But it's interesting to get that mixed feedback. With such a varied
bag of comparisons, one might say I have a 'unique' sound!"
2nd Story Band
2ND STORY's stage ad-libbing, instrumental improvisations, haunting harmonies and
ease with a wide variety of styles, not to mention Meagan's expressive and smoky
vocal interpretations, have delighted college, club and festival audiences for over
twenty years. Gary Loewenthal, a four year band member and a veteran of blues, rock,
alternative, and Bossa Nova bands, spices up the sound with his soulful and driving
guitar "licks". And along with Meagan's propulsive bass and Geoff's many guitar flavors
and multi instrumental garnishes they fire up a strong melodic groove. You are not
often likely to hear a band so convincingly and so expertly blend jazz forms, funky
blues and world rhythms into such a tasty gumbo!!!
JDA is more original without leaving their Brit-Pop roots.
Having lived in England some years back, this tune reminded
me of walks on the moors, dinners in rural pubs and the shrinking
pound years. Took me somewhere. That's good. 'What Has Gone Before,'
I assume, is titled to refer to sounds of the Brit-Pop wonder years.
If not, it works out fab, because this instrumental medley of sounds
is an aural documentary of famous '60s rock album 'feels.' Harrison
slide-guitar riffs, Moody Blues embellished movements, Blind Faith
pianos, you name it.
Take some fiery vocals, pour honey and vinegar on the words, and add some dynamic,
intricate, passionate piano...As a songwriter, her style exhibits an intense originality.
Her lyrics paint vivid pictures and the music reflects diverse influences from classical,
blues and current trends. The present band consists of Meredith Blis on lead vocals and
piano, accompanied by Julia Kent on cello, Dave Likhtiger on bass guitar and Michael P.
Nordberg on drums.
Suicidal Poets Are Notorious For Their Poetic Lyrics And Musical
Originality.they Are A Crossover Between Folk, Rock, Pop, Alternative
and Electronica. The Suicidal Poets launched onto the Internet music
scene April 1999 by joining SoundClick.com and that was like Opening
a Window to the World. Since then it has been an upward spiral of
success. They are curently making fine tuning adjustments to the bands line
up and hopefully we'll see more of them very soon.
Jeza's soothing voice has mellowed with time, and taken on a comforting,
avuncular tone. It blends well with the lethargic Latin rhythms and relaxing New Age
atmospheres of these songs.. Listen.com....
also love to play live and have treaded water in that arena for many years,
but I am not of the opinion that that is the most effective way to reach a
large international audience. Even if it's only one person at a time "..

Jen Elliott makes her professional debut with City Canyons.
The singer/songwriter—a leggy strawberry blonde—comes off
as the all-American girl but there's a subtle heat and power (and
a little mischief) to her voice—plus charisma that just won't quit.
Whether singing the tongue-in-cheek The Secret's Out
(Husick/Lloyd/Ettinger/Elliott), the angst-ridden Love and the
Rebel (Husick/Lloyd) or the growly, swamp-fevered Curse on You
(McConnaughey/Lloyd/Elliott), Jen brings color and emotion to
every tune she touches.
Dan Bar Hava
Dan writes everything, from Bartok-style orchestral scores to new age hip-hop to rock,
pop, techno and dance. Dan’s music has been performed in New York (Weill Recital Hall
at Carnegie Hall), Greece, South America, South-East Asia, and Israel. He composed
numerous soundtracks and served as musical director in a number of musical theatre
productions. In the band RIPE, Dan and Christa have collaborated on a number of songwriting
projects that have become the core sound of RIPE. Dan is also co-author on what is
going to the best film since Indiana Jones/The Raiders of the Lost Arc. It’s called
the Devil’s Interval.
What do you get when you take a dash of blues, rock-edged pop,
and pop-influenced contemporary folk? You get an effervescent
concoction of "Stuff You Like!" Carey Colvin plays her own special
mix of award-winning tunes with an intensity and intimacy that draws
in audiences everywhere.

Iridesense, is a break in the normal EvO:R rock artist introductions.

We're a Louisville, Ky.-based rock band that adds some comedy into the lyrical mix ... we're what's known in the industry as a "comedy rock band." Another industry term for us is "four nerds with nothing better to do than to bang on some musical instruments and pretend to be clever." Actually, though, some people say we sound like the Ramones beating up a clown, while others say we could be the bastard child of Tenacious D and Fountains of Wayne. Actually, we said all those things. It's marketing, man.
