Texas has a long history of great singers. Janis Joplin from Port Arthur,Buddy Holly from Lubbock, and Roy Orbison from Wink are some of the best know. One singer overlooked for years and relegated to one hit pop wonder status is J.Frank Wilson. The recordings on this Cd will provide ample evidence that Wilson’s musical roots were in the rock n’ roll sound thriving in Texas in the late 50’s and early 60’s.
(John) Frank Wilson was from Lufkin, Texas. He was born on December 11, 1941. The story of how J.Frank Wilson joined with the Cavaliers begins when he was stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas in the early 60‘s. Wilson knew about The Cavaliers since they were the finest band in town. They needed a new lead singer and J.Frank wanted to enlist. He passed the audition. Sonley Roush was a 27 year old record producer from Midland, Texas. One time he was at The Blue Note Club in Big Springs when he saw J.Frank and The Cavaliers perform and was duly impressed with their stage act. He talked to them about recording a Wayne Cochran song titled \"Last Kiss\".

The Rockin' Ramrods. The "hottest" band in New England in the sixties! When the Beatles offered the Rolling Stones "I Wanna Be Your Man" the Rockin' Ramrods were given the same chance. They grabbed the opportunity and made it one of the greatest hits of the northeast. The Rockin' Ramrods marked the golden era of the mid sixties with the release of 8 singles, with several hits. Probably the most famous "Beatle-type" group at the time, they have appeared with The Dave Clark Five, The Animals, Jan & Dean, Roy Orbison, Freddie Cannon and have opened for The Rolling Stones and The Kingsmen for nationwide tours.

A treasure trove of rare and unreleased tracks from 1963-66 by this English harmony beat group, influenced by the Beach Boys. Two members went on to join the Pretty Things and they have recorded seven new songs for this CD in the same harmony-rich style.
Formed in Kent, England, in 1962, the Fenmen evolved from a tough R&Beat combo into a superb harmony-based ensemble influenced by the Beach Boys, but with an unmistakably English flavr. The Fenmen broke up in early 1967 after Wally Waller and Jon Povey left to join the Pretty Things. SUNSTROKE presents a treasure trove of rare and previouly unreleased Fenmen tracks, including a 1966 radio session and a raw, rocking 1963 acetate, plus seven new recordings by Waller and Povey (The Bexley Brothers) in the harmony rich tradition of the Fenmen and the 1967-71 Pretty Things, including a breathtaking remaking of the Pretty Things' EMOTIONS standout "The Sun."
