Gay Marshall is a blues and jazz singer who fell in love with the story and music of Edith Piaf a while ago and has wanted to do this album ever since. The songs are so compelling – they’re like a string of two to four minute movies full of passion, heartbreak, joy and incredible soul. Although there are some songs in the original French, Gay worked on translations of others for months in order to find just the right mix of meaning and feeling, and with her arrangements, these tunes are a totally modern take on an old fashion style.

"In 1997. Paul came to the small carribean island of Curacao to visit me. He had his acoustic guitar with him, and we drove to the secluded and deserted beach of San Juan. We stopped at an old wooden shack and Paul began to play as pelicans flew around, and the deep blue sea rolled gently to the shore. Paul loved this scenery and his magic filled the air. He has always been drawn to the ocean and the beaches, and he played his heart out with the warm ocean breezes surrounding us. Listen closely and you may hear those breezes on these tracks. He blew me away, and I recorded the songs right there.
We recorded six songs; five from his new project "When The Coast is Clear" (Paul's masterpiece released in 2004). I requsted one of my favorite sonds of Paul's rich catalogue: the title song of one of Poco's albums, "Indian Summer". We recorded it while Paul walked along the beach and I believe it fits in the vein of these songs.

Inbar Bakal was born and raised in Tel Aviv, Israel, her half Yemenite and Iraqi roots make her musical journey quite unique. The Jewish Yemenite culture is known for its musical tradition and strong devotion to the Torah. She started as a child singer where she was a member of the “Li-Ron Choir” and gained advanced classical training as she participated in International Musical Festivals throughout the Middle East and Europe. Inbar later served 4 years with the Israeli Air Force where she was the first female officer ever in the Anti-Aircraft Combat Division, then a First Lieutenant in Military Intelligence Specializing in Public and International Relations. Since relocating to Southern California in 2003, she has been marrying biblical texts about yearning for love and a home for the Jewish people with old Yemenite melodies which complement
each other beautifully in this special and heartfelt album. Every text, tune, and melody has come from the deepest place of the soul.

I have already reviewed the album, but I have to comment on the new packaging. It is great! There is a new digi-pak format (no plastic used), new cover, and new artwork. In the 20 page booklet, there are pictures from the Sky is Open music video, and lyrics!! The music is still just as touching as it was the first time I listened to it and for anyone who doesn't have this amazing album yet, get it now!

I did allreddy had the first releas off this album that copy did only have a inlay. Now Donna made a real booklet witth all lyrics (thanx)and put it in a digipack. So also did have to get this release. The songs on this album are so amazing and lovely. hope your new mantra CD will be released soon Donna i can't wait to hear your voice more and more.

Groanbox Boys are the Uk based trio, Cory Seznec, Michael Ward-Bergeman, and Paul Clifford. The Groanbox sound is a unique blend of roots music from around the world performed on accordion, acoustic guitar, banjo, harmonica, and myriad pieces of percussion, including a calabash (African gourd), yew tree log, and the home-made Freedom Boot.
"Gran Bwa" was named after the Haitian Vodou loa (spirit) of the woods. Creole for "great wood" (from the French "grand bois"), Gran Bwa is the great spirit who resides deep in the woods and is associated with the gateway between the spirit world and the living world, the management of time, and medicinal healing.
All of these themes make appearances in this current album, which was recorded by Groanbox sound designer Yann Seznec on one late May night in Edinburgh at the tail end of an intense, soul-searching tour of the UK. Both the music and the vocals were inspired by the plethora of beautiful and bizarre moments experienced on the road.
