LSD: Love, Sensuality And Devotion CD
by Enigma
Our Price: $11.45 CD / $12.19 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Among the many artists that helped inject a pan-global flavor into American pop music is Enigma (A.K.A. Michael Cretu), a German artist who
brought the sound of chanting Gregorian monks to the charts with "Sadeness (Part I)," a breakout smash from Enigma's 1990 debut MCMXC a.d. The collection LOVESENSUALITYDEVOTION rounds out the rest of the '90s for Enigma with plenty of undulating rhythms and world music hybrids.
Dance beats are strung throughout this compilation and pop up on everything from the high-flying ambiance of "T.N.T. For The Brain" to the industrial clang of "Push the Limits" and the chugging "Modern Crusaders." One of Enigma's charms is the way the most unlikely elements find their way into the songs. A murmuring children's choir lightly breaks through the Asian-flavored "Cross Of Changes," the chant from a South American Indian gives the swirling "Return To Innocence" its distinctive character, and the whispered French and uttering of the title by Cretu's wife Sandra lends "Mea Culpa" a sensual edge. LOVESENSUALITYDEVOTION turns out to be a great drug for both the mind and the soul

Europa CD
by Chris Spheeris
Our Price: $14.49 CD
Usually ships in 1-2 days
While the title Europa may have you expecting some sort of connection to the Santana masterpiece,
what guitarist Chris Spheeris and keyboardist Paul Voudouris achieve is stirring in its own right. Often when artist credit is billed to two equals,
one winds up playing all the melodies while the other provides some supportive harmonic structure. Here, there is an even trade off. Spheeris takes command acoustically before his partner slinks in for an extended solo, and vice versa on the next track. As is typical of artists associated with the gray area between jazz and new age, the two aim for a soothing vibe rather than a chops explosion. The effect of the exotic if understated percussion is gorgeously hypnotic, like a hang glider soaring into a fertile terrain of clear sky and wind. Despite the soft veneer, Spheeris stands out as a surprisingly plucky guitar master. In time, some of the pieces run calmly together. But for all intents and purposes, it's a conceptual project, so it must be part of the grand design. ~ Jonathan Widran

Mcmxc, A.d. CD
by Enigma
Our Price: $11.49 cd / $7.59 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Perhaps this is what a techno artist would create to incite monks to dance: innocent grooves, sacred texts.
Until, there enters another breathy, sensual woman with sultry French talk. By now there's a compelling dance groove, which builds for a few minutes, then finally plateaus into a space filled with dripping sounds where the beat is kept afloat by the rhythmic panting of our seductress. Gradually this grows as more instruments are added, and she continues, this time in English, with "The Principles Of Lust." Finally the panting becomes erratic, the Monks sing backwards, and Enigma has another fan.
"Good evening. This is the voice of Enigma. In the next hour we will take you with us into another world, into the world of music, spirit and meditation. Turn off the lights, take a deep breath and relax." So begins the experience of MCMXC A.D. The soft female voice with a beckoning European accent amidst an ethereal backdrop of harmonic soundscapes is followed by Gregorian chanting, and, finally, the beat. "Start to move slowly. Very slowly. Let the rhythm be your guiding light."

Novus Magnificat: Thru The Stargate CD
by Constance Demby
Our Price: $13.85 CD
Usually ships in 1-2 days
This two-part album of symphonic space music by Constance Demby is a must-have. Divinely inspired? Probably so; for those who believe in Fate,
the timing of its release was in alignment with the arrival of the Harmonic Convergence. Demby, with her years on the road with an experimental music group, was used to creating massive spiritual works: large sounds, unusual instruments, and broad scopes. Novus Magnificat was her first album produced with her 16-track studio using digital sampling technology. Here, she had all the voices of the orchestra and choir at her fingertips, and she used all 16 tracks (and then some) to complete the composition. The music is in two parts: part one is
like wandering the halls of heaven before the Big Event. Choir sounds bounce from cloud formations, and redemption seems at hand. Though Demby sets an overall path of sound, rhapsodic cul-de-sacs appear like intimate and sacred shrines. Part two begins with a Bach-like organ piece, which creates fascinating inner structures. Demby then takes you through long hallways; angels sing nearby, melodies tug at your heart, space winds clean away cobwebs of the mind. Trumpets begin their heralding calls, an organ sings in anticipation, choirs rejoice, harps fly, shooting stars sparkle. Peak builds on crescendo until ultimately, the cosmos split open and the whole universe joyously avalanches through with the angels enjoying the ride. This awe-inspiring and breathtaking anointment is worth playing on a good sound system. Crank up the sound, place yourself between the speakers, and allow yourself the gift of this music. Space music composer Michael Stearns contributed special celestial sonic effects. ~ Carol Wrigh

Aria
by Paul Schwartz and Mario Grigorov
Our Price: $12.99 CD / $7.92 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Ambient composers Paul Schwartz and Mario Grigorov add their electronic melodies to selected opera arias on this album. Popular melodies from Carmen, Madame Butterfly, The Magic Flute, Dido, Aeneas, and more are used here. The final effect is
striking, though these classic themes may be enhancing the Schwartz- Grigonoz creations more than they are helping the arias. A product of renowned Abbey Road Studio #1, all the operatic vocals were recorded live in this acoustically superb environment. This shows the creator's respect for the time-tested gems they are setting. It comes as no surprise that Schwartz was Andre Previn's assistant conductor with the Pittsburgh Symphony and musical director for Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phanton of the Opera. Grigorov is a pianist and composer who is as comfortable in jazz and classical music as is in rock and electronica. Aria is sublime and rewarding. ~ Tom Schulte
