Canciones De Mi Padre (Songs Of My Father) CD
by Linda Ronstadt
Our Price: $8.79
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Following her commercially successful trilogy with Nelson Riddle, Linda Ronstadt once more lighted upon
untested ground by recording this set of popular Mexican ballads and mariachis all dedicated to her dad.
Fluent in Spanish, Ronstadt undeniably has the credentials and chops to tackle a
project of this nature. And what a project it is, with full guitar-and-violin-laden orchestra on hand to
accompany the singer. Singing in Spanish lends an unfamiliar, grainy timbre to Rondstadt's always powerful voice,
allowing this archetypal baby boomer to sound like a grown-up at last, a quality which perhaps eluded her on
the Riddle sessions which had their unmistakable air of dress-up, no matter how well executed.
Recorded between July 20 & September 21, 1987.
Personnel includes: Linda Ronstadt (vocals); Danny Valdez (vocals, guitar); Gilberto Puente, Samuel
Gutierrez, Humberto Hernandez (guitar); Felipe Perez, Antonio Ramos, Salvador Torres (violin);
Steve Fowler (flute); Ron Kalina (harmonica); Juan Gudiono, Luis Salinas (trumpet); Jim Self (tuba);
Larry Bunker (percussion).

Last... CD
by Aventura
Our Price: $10.89
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Latin pop boy band Aventura has achieved no small amount of success with their unique blend of
traditional Dominican bachata and sleek, Top 40-oriented R&B. THE LAST, Aventura's fifth studio
release, further explores the band's swoon-worthy
style, and is one of their most accomplished and impressive efforts.
As usual, the quartet plays to their strengths, which include
lilting tropical ballads, with the occasional foray into hip-hop-flavored slow jams,
such as "Spanish Fly," featuring cameos from Ludacris and Wyclef Jean. Additional cameos
from Akon, Wisin y Yandel, and jazz legend Arturo Sandoval heighten the star appeal of
THE LAST, but it's Aventura's smooth, sultry bachata-pop that steals the show.
Personnel: Noa Neve, Giselle Moya (vocals); Eric 'Bori' Rivera (guitar, acoustic guitar,
electric guitar, background vocals); Wilmore "Bimbo" Franco, Lenny Santos (guitar);
Gerry Grimaud Jr (acoustic guitar, background vocals); William Jose Brito (saxophone); Joaquin Diaz (piano, synthesizer);
Romeo (keyboards, sound effects, background vocals); Joshua Mateo (keyboards, sound effects); Max Santos (bass instrument);
Guillermo Frias (congas); Leonardo Reyes, Raul Biel (bongos); Albert Batista, Enrique Guira, Radhames Reyes (guiro);
Frank Junior Inoa (tambora); Henry Jeter (background vocals).

11:11... CD
by Rodrigo Y Gabriela
Our Price: $11.85
Usually ships in 1-2 days
The very first moments of Rodrigo y Gabriela's sophomore effort, 11:11, hit the listener cold in the face,
and not just because of the amazing guitar playing. Sure, it's there, but it's what anyone who heard the
duo's astonishing debut would expect. No, it's the sound of the record: immediate,
forceful, crystalline; it's in-your-face compelling and impossible to ignore. 11:11 features 11 new compositions,
dedicated to 11 musical artists (not all guitarists, either) who have had an influence on the duo.
Recorded in
Ixtapa, Mexico, the set was self-produced with the exception of two cuts, which were co-produced with John Leckie.
Throughout, Rodrigo y Gabriela showcase their metal chops as part and parcel of their Mexican guitar heritage.
They've not simply melded the two, but have created an entirely different form of music for the acoustic guitar
in the process. It's infectious and accessible, full of pathos, intensity, passion, and color.

Kings Of Bachata: Sold Out At Madison Square Garden ...CD
by Aventura
Our Price: $12.25
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Aventura presents the group's landmark sold-out performance at Madison Square Garden. The DVD commences as
Anthony flies from the rafters into the arena, driving thousands of ecstatic fans wild in the true Aventura
style. The ... Full Descriptionroster of guest artists, top secret until the night of the performance,
includes Miri Ben-Ari, the virtuoso Hip Hop Violinist, Wisin & Yandel, Don Omar, Olga Tanon, El Torito, and
Anthony Santos. The program includes a video introduction narrated by Anthony, interviews, fascinating B-roll,
and some bonus selections from Altos de Chavon and the 2006 Madison Square Garden performance.
KINGS OF BACHATA: SOLD OUT AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN is a triumphant homecoming for New York City natives
Aventura. Formed in the Bronx with the intent of infusing Dominican bachata with the sounds of contemporary
American R&B, Aventura released their first album in 1999, and built their following steadily but surely
over subsequent releases. This 2007 two-disc live release, which finds the group playing to a sold-out crowd,
is an enjoyable sampler of their smooth, tropical flavor (Aventura fall more on the traditional side than
the hybrid or R&B side) and charismatic performances.

Amoroso/Brasil... CD
by Joao Gilberto
Our Price: $11.99
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Joao Gilberto is perhaps forever destined to be lesser known to casual jazz fans than his occasional
collaborator Stan Getz (whose GETZ/GILBERTO albums introduced the United States to bossa nova) and his
ex-wife Astrud Gilberto (whose shy, delicate voice made her one of the most
distinctive and beloved jazz vocalists of the '60s). However, true fans of Brazilian music recognize
that Gilberto is second only to Antonio Carlos Jobim as a writer and interpreter of traditional Brazilian
music and Brazilian-influenced jazz.
These two albums, collected in full on one CD, are among Gilberto's best solo albums. Alternating between
standards like "'S Wonderful" or "Besame Mucho" and Brazilian tunes like Jobim's "Wave" and the original
"Triste," AMOROSO is a fine, romantic jazz album. BRASIL, as the title suggests, consists of six
traditional-style sambas, sung in Portuguese to acoustic guitars and hypnotic percussion. Both are
essential to Gilberto fans and neophytes.
AMOROSO was released in 1977.

A Man and His Music: El Inolvidable CD
by Tito Rodriguez
Our Price: $14.60
Usually ships in 1-2 days

Lagrimas Negras CD
by Bebo & Cigala
Our Price: $9.59
Usually ships in 1-2 days
A lively, spontaneous record that manages to sound both relaxed and forceful at the same time, A Toda Cuba Le Gusta shows off the talents of many of Cuba's
elder statesmen of Afro-Cuban jazz. Over gently pulsating conga grooves and low-register ostinatos, such luminaries as pianist
Ruben Gonzalez and singer Manuel "Puntillita" Licea float dramatic melodies, as their solo contributions are answered by brass section chords as
thick and sweet as cane syrup. Although it is Ruben Gonzalez' presence on this album that gets the most attention, his tendency towards relentless
chromaticism becomes tiresome early on, especially when it is contrasted with the exquisite phrasing and tremulous beauty of singers such as Licea,
Raul Planas, and Ibrahum Ferrer. As would be expected, the trumpets blare with traditional Cuban bravado, evoking gentle romance and fiery passion
with equal ease. Even the resident gringo, Ry Cooder, gets in some choice licks on "Alto Songo." The relative lack of dynamic movement in most of
these songs may lead to them blending together in the ear of the listener, but the inherent tunefulness of each track, not to mention the sheer
drive that this band is capable of summoning, cancels that complaint out nicely. An important collaboration and a promising debut. ~ Daniel Gioffre
A TODOS CUBA LE GUSTA was nominated for a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Tropical Latin Performance.

Maria Elena/Always In My Heart CD
by Los Indios Tabajaras
Our Price: $12.09 CD
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Maria Elena/Always in My Heart is a single-CD that combines Los Indios Tabajaras' two hit albums from the early '60s. Both records
contain laid-back, folky and vaguely Brazilian arrangments of contemporary pop and traditional Brazilian folk
songs. There's a lot of filler on the disc, but it's enjoyable filler and anyone looking for a single disc containing all the Los
Indios Tabajaras they need, this is it. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Includes liner notes by Mark Marymont & Richard Joseph.
Contains 2 LPs on 1 CD: MARIA ELENA (1963)/ALWAYS IN MY HEART (1964).
