7even Year Itch: Greatest Hits 1994-2001 CD
by Collective Soul
Our Price: $8.15
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Led by the raspy-voiced Ed Roland, Collective Soul avoided falling into the morass of sameness plaguing many of their faceless
post-grunge brethren and instead quietly established themselves as one of the more intellectually stimulating bands of the '90s.
For its 7EVEN YEAR ITCH compilation, this Georgia quartet consistently displays a deceptively simple approach that avoids bandwagon-jumping
and instead focuses on hook-laden, guitar-driven manna with the occasional philosophical observation (not surprising as the band's name is an Ayn Rand reference).
Avoiding any hint of didactic pretensions, Roland's songwriting often touches on simple truths, be it the quest for guidance by a higher
being in "Shine" (which was later given a gorgeous bluegrass reading by Dolly Parton), the pain of solitude on the moving "The World I
Know," or the glory of absolution addressed in "Forgiveness." Even the new songs included on this collection continue down this path
of introspection. With a more rhythmically hard-hitting approach than normal, "Next Homecoming" seeks out a sense of security in an
unsure future while "Energy" churns out an insistent groove over a declaration of suspected betrayal.
7EVEN YEAR ITCH prove hooks and
brainy concepts needn't be mutually exclusive of each other.

Sonic Boom CD
by Kiss
Our Price: 16.09 CD
Usually ships in 1-2 days
When SONIC BOOM was released, it had been over a decade since the last Kiss studio album, so expectations were understandably high.
In addition, the intervening period had seen the band fire two of its founding members for the second time, only to replace them with
sidemen wearing Ace Frehley and Peter Criss's iconic makeup. Luckily, the new additions, unlike some of Kiss's "un-masked years" members,
have a good feel for classic Kiss. That fact, matched with Paul Stanley's assumption of production duties, makes SONIC BOOM one of the
most consistent and thoroughly Kiss-sounding albums since the group's `70s heyday. That said, the New York City unit manages to branch
out a bit; alongside very ROCK & ROLL OVER/LOVE GUN-esque tracks such as the Gene Simmons-sung rockers "Yes I Know (Nobody's Perfect)"
and "Russian Roulette," sit ambitious pieces such as "Stand," which employs a Motown-influenced chorus melody, sophisticated arrangement,
and Beach Boys-style harmonies, and "All For the Glory" and "Lightning Strikes," which are vocal showcases from new guys Eric Singer and
Tommy Thayer (respectively).
Interestingly, both Singer's rasp and Thayer's slightly off-kilter delivery are highly reminiscent of
their famous predecessors, which further contributes to the album's distinct Kiss-ness. Overall, though the record doesn't pack quite
the same lean, mean, gritty punch as early classics like DESTROYER or KISS (or Ace Frehley's own 2009 album ANOMALY), it is a clear
return to the sound of archetypal Kiss.

Chickenfoot CD
by Chickenfoot
Our Price: $12.79 CD / $6.39 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
.
In true old-school "supergroup" fashion, Chickenfoot is a hard-rock dream team. Composed of vocalist Sammy Hagar (Montrose, Van Halen),
bassist Michael Anthony (Van Halen), drummer Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), and guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani, the combo grew
out of a few impromptu jams, but the combination was judged strong enough to record an album and go on tour. The resulting disc is
a full-throttle, unapologetic rock record, brimming with the same party attitude and sense of fun that made Van Halen so legendary.
From the "Boris the Spider"-esque locomotive descending riff and manic screams that drive "Oh Yeah" to the screaming guitar solos
and pounding drums of "Get it Up," these songs showcase veteran musicians having the time of their lives, playing the type of music they know and love best.
Billboard (p.33) - "Satriani's fretwork is surprisingly raw, loose and gritty, while Smith channels John Bonham more than once."
Record Collector (magazine) (p.80) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "'[T]heir 11-song debut is an impressive melding of their variegated hard
rock styles....The energetic and Eastern-leaning 'Get It Up' rages into the rumbling 'Down The Drain'..."

Zoot Allures CD
by Frank Zappa
Our Price: $6.75 CD
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Among Zappa's grittier works, ZOOT ALLURES is a strong piece of mid-'70s work that focuses more on the interaction of Zappa
and a small group that includes Terry Bozzio, Ruth Underwood and Roy Estrada, temporarily abandoning the jazzy, large-scale efforts of previous
albums like ONE SIZE FITS ALL. It's a bit of a mixed bag, but all the disparate ingredients for a satisfying whole. There are simple, catchy
rock tunes like "Wind Up Workin' in a Gas Station," "Ms. Pinky," a synth-led ode to a sexual toy, and "Disco Boy," which foreshadowed Zappa's
hit "Dancing Fool." The lovely instrumental "Black Napkins" is among the prettiest compositions in Zappa's canon, highlighting his guitar
work in an uncharacteristically restrained mode. The arguable centerpiece of the album is the epic-length "The Torture Never Stops."
Sung by Zappa in his deepest, dirtiest, most ominous voice, the song recounts the tale of an evil monarch who does unspeakable things
in the depths of his castle. Full of Zappa's bluesy guitar interjections, its one of the most deliciously unsavory things FZ ever committed to tape.
Digitally remastered by Bob Stone (1989).

Let It Bleed CD
by Rolling Stones
Our Price: $14.19 CD / $7.59 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
The last Stones studio album of the '60s finds the band, for perhaps the first time, accurately reflecting the spirit of its age.
The erstwhile bad boy outsiders of rock now found themselves firmly in the center of the social and political post-'68 whirlwind, and faced up
to the challenge magnificently. The band's confident climb to its artistic peak was begun by BEGGAR'S BANQUET, but LET IT BLEED is a quantum
leap even from that musical milestone.
The album's opener, "Gimme Shelter," with its insinuating guitar introduction, leads us decisively out of Flower Power and into a world where
rape and murder are "just a shot away," and the Devil of BANQUET is very much alive and taking names. There's a nod to seminal influence
Robert Johnson, whose "Love in Vain" is a mandolin-accompanied highlight. The climax arrives in the form of "You Can't Always Get What You
Want," bearing references to the fallout of the Swinging London era. LET IT BLEED finds the Stones brimming with musical confidence and artistic inspiration.
Rolling Stone (12/11/03, p.106) - Ranked #32 in Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums Of All Time" - "...[The album] rattles and burns
with apocalyptic cohesion..."
Rolling Stone (p.147) - 5 stars out of 5 - "[I]t's a howling force of nature....This is the sound of the world coming to an end. LET
IT BLEED offers sympathy, in that slutty, decadent way that was the Stones' specialty."

Paranoid CD
by Black Sabbath
Our Price: $8.69 CD
Usually ships in 1-2 days
PARANOID proved to be Black Sabbath's most focused, consistent, and successful record. Leaving behind the amorphous, extended
jams of their debut for focused songs and a more structured sound, Black Sabbath virtually wrote the book on heavy nmetal with the ominous,
unforgettable riffs, thunderous rhythms, and dark themes on this release. There are some up-tempo rockers, the famous title track for one,
but for the most part PARANOID oozes along like a bad dream, as on the slinky, creepy opener, "War Pigs," or the lumbering thud of "Iron Man"
(which boasts one of the most indelible electric guitar riffs in rock history).
The album's title is apt: PARANOID is filled with an edgy aggression and lyrics about war, insanity, death, and destruction. Ozzy Osbourne's
flat, affectless voice merges perfectly with Tony Iommi's fuzzed-out, sledgehammer power chords and the bruising bass and drum lines to create
an intense, freaky, horror-show universe. There are elements of blues-rock and psychedelia (the floating "Planet Caravan," in particular),
but Black Sabbath basically invents here what would become one of the most popular genres of music in the latter 20th century and beyond.
Even after the millions of heavy metal albums that have followed in its wake, PARANOID stands as an all-time classic.
Black Sabbath: Ozzy Osbourne (vocals); Tony Iommi (guitar); Geezer Butler (bass instrument); Bill Ward (drums).

Christmas Time Again CD
by Lynyrd Skynyrd
Our Price: $9.35 CD
/ $9.99 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
A Southern rock Christmas album? Hey, it makes as much sense as Run-DMC's "Christmas in Hollis," and the good news is that the Lynyrd
Skynyrd boys--along with special guests the Charlie Daniels Band and .38 Special--truly get into the spirit with a nice mix of seasonal
standards (rock and otherwise) and originals. Among the latter, the Daniels Band provides a frankly terrifying "Devil Went Down to
Georgia"-derived take on "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," while Skynyrd crunch through Chuck Berry's "Run, Rudolph Run" with Stones-like aplomb.
On the originals front, .38 Special score big with "Mama's Song," a Southern rock power pop hybrid in their best '80s style, although
it must be said that these self-proclaimed wild-eyed Southern boys have a sentimental streak a mile wide (and when their song is
followed by Skynyrd's near-obscene "Santa Claus Wants Some Lovin'," it's a tad disconcertin'...). In any case, the album concludes,
nicely, with a little harmonizing by the entire Skynyrd family (kids, relatives, road crew, dogs, etc). Fun stuff.
Additional personnel includes: Charlie Daniels (vocals, guitar); .38 Special

Boston CD
by Boston
Our Price: $6.25 CD / $7.99 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Recorded on a simple 12-track recorder as a demo, it was so good that the record company released it. Tom Scholz masterminded
the project in his spare time; little did he know that this record came to define AOR, and would become a hi-fi store standard
demo disc. Since that time, this record-breaking debut has sold 15 million copies in its homeland. Sholtz put so much effort
into making it, he has managed only three further records in 22 years. "More Than A Feeling" still chills in a corny sort of
way and the harmonies are pretty impressive.
Recorded at Foxglove Studios, Watertown, Massachusetts; Capitol Studios, Hollywood, California; The Record Plant, Los Angeles, California between 1975 and 1976.
Boston: Brad Delp (vocals); Tom Scholz (guitar, bass guitar); Barry Goudreau (guitar); Fran Sheehan (bass guitar); Sib Hashian (drums).
Boston: Brad Delp (vocals); Tom Scholz (guitar, organ); Barry Goudreau (guitar); Fran Sheenan (bass); Sib Hassian (drums).

Stripped CD
by Rolling Stones
Our Price: $8.49 CD $9.99 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
STRIPPED is an Enhanced multi-media CD. Its interactive material, playable on any CD-ROM player, includes highlights from the
VOODOO LOUNGE CD-ROM, electronic liner notes, photos, lyrics, song outtakes and live videos of "Shattered," "Tumbling Dice" and "Like A Rolling Stone."
As the longest continuously surviving band in rock and roll, The Rolling Stones have become a symbol of staying power, and STRIPPED proves
why. Its lean, live, acoustic format draws from their Voodoo Lounge tour, which mixed the band's early material with some judiciously picked
covers and a handful of country-blues classics, giving the band more punch as a live act that it's had in the studio in years.
The Stones' clever interpretation of Bob Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone" finds Mick Jagger asking "how does it feel to be on your own"; some
thirty years after the song first hit the charts, the question still rings true. There is no other band like The Rolling Stones, and they
are now completely on their own--peerless, that is. The Stones are also armed with a musical catalog that'll never be equaled, and STRIPPED
shines because it brings some brilliant, underutilized elements of that catalog back to the forefront. The barroom boogie of "I'm Free" and
the subdued country-gospel of "Wild Horses" are steeped in the reverence that makes the delicate blues of Delta deity Robert Johnson's "Love In Vain" so crucial.
It's all in here--everything that makes them The Rolling Stones: Jagger's sermonizing vocals, Keith Richards' and Ronnie Wood's acoustic
honky-tonk guitars, Charlie Watt's flawless metronome drums. STRIPPED isn't as naked as it claims to be, but it's the perfect modern
way to view the Stones' impressive past, and the band's ongoing strut as leaders of the pack.
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.Q (2/96, p.67) - Included in Q's 50 Best Albums of 1995.
Q (12/95, pp.152-155) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...Even the most die-hard fans can't ever have imagined such a set....it's an enjoyable hour's worth....
just about note perfect throughout..."
Musician (2/96, p.94) - "...suggests the band realy is sharper than ever, or else did cut that deal with the devil..."
