Autobahn CD
by Kraftwerk
Our Price: $15.65 CD
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Although Kraftwerk's first three albums were groundbreaking in their own right, Autobahn is where the group's hypnotic
electronic pulse genuinely came into its own. The main difference between Autobahn and its predecessors is how it
develops an insistent, propulsive pulse that makes the repeated rhythms and riffs of the shimmering electronic
keyboards and trance-like guitars all the more hypnotizing. The 22-minute title track, in a severely edited form,
became an international hit single and remains the peak of the band's achievements --
it encapsulates the band and why they are important within one track -- but the rest of the album provides
soundscapes equally as intriguing. Within Autobahn, the roots of electro-funk, ambient, and synth pop are all evident
-- it's a pioneering album, even if its electronic trances might not capture the attention of all listeners. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
A remarkable journey--and one that needs to be heard on headphones..."
Q (Magazine) (p.116) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "From 1974 to the early '80s, they were so ahead of the field as
to appear almost superhuman, as instantly proved by the epic title track of 'Autobahn'..

No Hassle CD
by Tosca
Our Price: $14.09 CD
Usually ships in 1-2 days
On 2009's NO HASSLE, Kruder & Dorfmeister's Richard Dorfmeister reunites with Rupert Huber as Tosca for another
round of chilled-out Austrian electronica. The aptly titled album unfolds slowly, with a supremely laid-back
atmosphere throughout, as exemplified by the jazz-tinged "Elitsa," the gauzy "Oysters in May," and the lightly funky "Fondue."
The lack of releases and exposure from Peter Kruder and Richard Dorfmeister during the 2000s may not have been
entirely a bad thing; granted, their early remixes and productions as Kruder & Dorfmeister were landmarks in
trip-hop, but if they'd continued on a similar release schedule, they might have gone the way of countless other
acts trying (and failing) to avoid the forest-for-the-trees issues that plagued both producers and listeners.
Dorfmeister's Tosca project with Rupert Huber remained relatively consistent, although without a full-length
of new productions in quite a few years.
Alongside vocals that twitch and croon, the band presents their live act as a circus sideshow,
complete with animals masks, hypnotic visuals and zoo-based personas. Their avant-garde blend of
sound craft and performance art combine into a show like nothing before!

Screen Behind The Mirror CD
by Enigma
Our Price: $11.55 CD / $9.99 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Enigma's fourth album The Screen Behind the Mirror continues Michael Cretu's explorations into ambient new age,
Gregorian chant, world music, and dance rhythms. Cretu's vocals play a more prominent role than on earlier Enigma
albums, which, unfortunately, often detracts from the songs' other diverse elements -- which include church bells,
Middle Eastern and European choirs, sensuous female vocals, and a wide array of ethnic percussion and instruments.
The album's pieces are mixed together continuously and are united thematically by samples and reinterpretations of
Orff's "O Fortuna" and other material from Carmina Burana, giving songs like "Endless Quest," "The Gate," and
"Smell of Desire" a flowing, cohesive feel. Though it doesn't reveal significant growth or change in Enigma's
work, The Screen Behind the Mirror will please fans of the group's other atmospheric works. ~ Heather Phares
CMJ (1/31/00, p.22) - "...couples the soul-stirring spirituality of new age music with the debauchery o
f disco breakbeats and samples....a rather erotic affair....an alluring backdrop for the pious meditation or
the copulation rituals of your choosing."

LSD: Love Sensuality Devotion, The Greatest Hits CD
by Enigma
Our Price: $11.45 CD / $12.19 mp3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
LSD: Love, Sensuality and Devotion gathers over a decade's worth of Enigma's definitive tracks, including the
song that started it all, "Sadeness, Pt. 1." "Return to Innocence," "Beyond the Invisible," and "Cross of Changes"
are all featured as well, and though the collection ranges from the rock-tinged "I'll Love You...I'll Kill You" to
atmospheric, electronic fare like "Shadows in Silence," since it's all essentially Michael Crétu's vision, it
flows surprisingly well.
Since Enigma's sound has varied fairly drastically over the years, LSD: Love, Sensuality
and Devotion is the perfect starting point for anyone curious about Crétu's music, and the only Enigma album that
casual fans might need. ~ Heather Phares
Among the many artists that helped inject a pan-global flavor into American pop music is Enigma (A.K.A. Michael Cretu),
a German artist who brought the sound of chanting Gregorian monks to the charts with "Sadeness (Part I)," a breakout
smash from Enigma's 1990 debut MCMXC a.d. The collection LOVESENSUALITYDEVOTION rounds out the rest of the '90s for
Enigma with plenty of undulating rhythms and world music hybrids.

Rendezvous CD - Import
by Jean-Michel Jarre
Our Price: $9.89 CD
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Just after his live performance in Houston to celebrate NASA's anniversary, Jean-Michel Jarre released Rendez-Vous,
an appropriately cosmic-sounding album of glittering synth pop. It consists of the same music heard at the Houston
concert and shows Jarre moving closer to conventional rock territory, though still with his distinct blueprint.
The final track, "Last Rendez-Vous: Ron's Piece," was composed by Jarre for astronaut Ron McNair and was intended
to be the first musical piece played and recorded in space. McNair's historic duty was cut short, however, by the
Challenger shuttle disaster of January 1986. ~ John Bush

Comparsa CD
by Deep Forest
Our Price: $10.25 CD / $9.99 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
The duo's third album, Comparsa, continues the world music potpourri Deep Forest are known for, though there is a
pronounced focus on Latin and Caribbean grooves provided by musicians from Cuba, Belize, Mexico, and Madagascar,
among other places. Although the nationalities present are truly global, the actual sound of Deep Forest hasn't
changed that much, centering mostly on lush new age music with just a bit more of an edge than is usual, plus several
tracks with whispered or restrained vocals. For fans of the debut album, Comparsa is a noteworthy, though hardly
necessary, acquisition. ~ John Bush
Deep Forest emerged in as a unique phenomenon in the '90s, employing the ambient musical techniques established in
the '70s and '80s, but with an added twist. Using natural sounds and souped-up technology to create something of
a world-music/ambient/techno fusion, Deep Forest captured the imagination and ears of millions of listeners.
COMPARSA represents not a departure so much as a strengthening of position. Deep Forest finds those elements of
their sound that speak most directly to the listener and expands on them to fine effect.
Fans of their music
will be slightly surprised at some of the new timbres and rhythms on COMPARSA, but they will certainly not come away dissapointed.

Zoolook CD - Import
by Jean-Michel Jarre
Our Price: $9.89 CD
Usually ships in 1-2 days
On the first departure of his career since 1977's Oxygène, Jean Michel Jarre combined an actual band and processed vocal samples
-- recorded in 25 different languages -- with his rich, melodic synthesizer pop. The rhythm is often propelled by guttural
vocal snippets, as on "Ethnicolor" and "Zoolookologie." That's not half as disconcerting for those used to his previous work
as the album's art-funk backing: Adrian Belew on guitar, Marcus Miller on bass, and Yogi Horton on drums, plus Laurie
Anderson on one track. Though Zoolook is interesting throughout, the tracks with Jarre alone are often the best, reprising
the classic Oxygène sound. ~ John Bush
Though Zoolook is interesting throughout, the tracks with Jarre alone are often the
best, reprising the classic Oxygène sound. Zoolook was re-released one year after its first issue, with two tracks slightly
remixed. ~ John Bush
