Aja CD
by Steely Dan
Our Price: $6.55 CD / 6.39 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
This represents the pinnacle of Steely Dan's gradual transition from rock band to their own brand of jazz-influenced
white soul. Guitars were replaced by keyboards, and saxophones became more common. Walter Becker and Donald Fagen were
only interested in spending time in the recording studios, while the fans pined and waited. The result set new standards
in recorded excellence, and is regularly used as a hi-fi shop demonstration. The ambitious title track was deemed too
difficult for radio play and only the two overtly accessible tracks `Josie' and `Peg', gave them valuable exposure.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.
Rolling Stone (8/30/01, p.128) - 5 stars out of 5 - "...Exquisite...music so technically demanding its creators had to call in A-list session players to realize the sounds they heard in their heads but could not play....AJA [is the]frustration and failure at the heart of the party."
Q (6/00, p.131) - 5 stars out of 5 - "...Sleek, smart, deliciously cynical...Lyrically opaque and using the best musical back-up in the business, this was the Steely Dan album that effectively ring-fenced jazz-funk forevermore....what rich entertainment still."

Every Picture Tells A Story CD
by Rod Stewart
Our Price: $12.15 CD / $7.59 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
The aesthetic Rod Stewart had been honing over his first three solo albums--an aesthetic that combined
folk, hard rock, and R&B swagger--was perfected on EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY. The album's combination of strong,
original songs and plum cover versions reveal the artist's range and versatility as he simultaneously paid tribute
to mentors and declared his own craft. Members of Stewart's regular group, the Faces, provide intuitive support,
making nearly every track shine with passion and edge.
Stewart's take-no-prisoners interpretation of the Temptations' "(I Know I'm) Losing You" brought new dimensions
to a Tamla/Motown classic. "Maggie May," one of the great pop anthems, is the obvious standout, but the remaining
selections, such as "Mandolin Wind" and Tim Hardin's beautiful "Reason To Believe," have a similar sense of purpose.
Through it all, of course, is Stewart's soulful, beautifully textured singing, which reaches its pinnacle on
these performances, ensuring the artist's standing as one of rock's all-time greatest vocalists. If you buy only
one Rod Stewart album, EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY should be it.
Rolling Stone (12/11/03, p.136) - Ranked #172 in Rolling Stone's "The 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time"
Rolling Stone (7/8/71, p.42) - "...he's got soul to spare...He's eloquent, literate, and moving: a superb writer...
no better backing band in the biz at the moment..."
Rolling Stone (9/30/71, p.42) - "...the best thing he has...done on record..."
Goldmine (7/90) - "...stunning in every way, its release on high quality Ultradisc makes perfect sense..."

by Blues Image
Our Price: $11.59 CD / $9.99 MP3

First-ever domestic CD issue of the group's in-demand second album, featuring 'Ride Captain Ride'
When Blues Image launched into their 1970 chart smash, 'Ride Captain Ride', the smoking lamp was
always lit. But, with their subtle use of Latin Rhythms, featuring tantalizing fret-board work
by Mike Pinera and the addictive conga drums of Joe Lala, this Tampa, Fla. combo proved themselves
anything but a one hit wonder on their out of nowhere classic, Open. Sundazed. 2004
Recorded at American Recording Company, Studio City, California.
Blues Image: Mike Pinera, Malcolm Jones, Skip Conte, Joe Lala, Manuel Bertematti.

All The Young Dudes CD
by Mott The Hoople
Our Price: $6.79 CD / $9.99 MP3
Usually ships in 1-2 days
In 1973, the members of Mott the Hoople were tired. Island Records had dropped the band after three albums,
as sales were low and audience interest was almost non-existent. But the band had a famous fan in David Bowie,
who offered to write them one single to give them a leg up. That single was the chart-topping "All the Young Dudes,"
a glitter-era wink-wink celebration of male bonding that name-checked chart-toppers T. Rex and repositioned the
once-laddish band as glammy, androgynous scenesters. Obviously, an album was called for.
Produced by Bowie and opening with a smoking cover of "Sweet Jane" that played a major role in raising public
awareness of the Velvet Underground, ALL THE YOUNG DUDES is a brassy, loud, obnoxious--in the best possible
sense--rock & roll album. "Sucker" and "One of the Boys" recall the hit, while "Jerkin' Crocus" and "Sea Diver"
are as odd as the band's earlier material. An amazing mid-career transformation.
Includes bonus tracks.Rolling Stone (p.70) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "[T]he heavy riffs and hand claps of 'Sucker' and guitarist Mick Ralphs' stadium-ready sludge fest 'Ready for Love/After Lights' gave that Bowie-produced album its vital variety."
Rolling Stone (12/7/72, p.63) - "...an extravagant amount of power-driven, rock & roll....they're bound to make it on the strength of this record..."
Uncut (p.114) - 5 stars out of 5 -- "[Bowie's] studio craft sheered up their sound, highlighting Ian Hunter's more focused material..."
Mojo (Publisher) (p.125) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "'Momma's Little Jewel' and a cover of 'Sweet Jane' reveal staying power."

American Beauty CD
by Grateful Dead
Our Price: $9.15
Usually ships in 1-2 days
AMERICAN BEAUTY was an instant classic when it was first released November of 1970. It is among the most
satisfying and enduring of the Grateful Dead's studio recordings, expanding as it does on the engaging
mix of country, blues, and folk materials they first coined earlier in the year
with WORKINGMAN'S DEAD.
The musical vision of the Dead is more sharply focused on AMERICAN BEAUTY--from the serene reflection
and compassion of the opening "Box Of Rain" and the earthy mysticism of "Ripple," to the sensual rock of
"Sugar Magnolia" and the anthemic proto-boogie of the closing "Truckin'." But then, every tune on AMERICAN
BEAUTY has attained a classic resonance, both from decades of steady airplay, and the way the Dead seemed
to continually revive these popular standards for their concert repertoire.
Rolling Stone (12/24/70, p.52) - "...the album is American beauty of the best possible kind....A complete contentment shines through the vocal work....The instrumentation is rich with sound that moves through, under and into the listener..."
Mojo (Publisher) (p.153) - "It's a near perfect set of songs, most becoming mainstays of their repertoire."
