60's Music CDs : Top Sellers
Music by the decades: [50's] [60's] [70's]
 [80's] [90's]

Greatest Hits CD
by Johnny Rivers
Our Price: $8.85
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Unlike many of the single-disc Johnny Rivers anthologies available, the Capitol edition of GREATEST HITS
includes the original singles from Rivers's tenure at Liberty Records and his own imprint, Soul City.
This 10-track compilation is a concise summation of his '60s hits, although '70s singles like "Slow Dancin'
(Swayin' to the Music)" are, unfortunately, not included.
All meat, no filler, this is good-time blue-eyed soul at its finest. Fans wanting a more substantial
selection should try Rhino's 1991 two-disc set ANTHOLOGY.

Greatest Hits CD
by Revere, Paul & The Raiders
Our Price: $6.75
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Recorded between 1964 & 1967. Includes liner notes by Mark Lindsay & Billy Altman.
Digitally remastered by Vic Anesini (Sony Music Studios, New York, New York).
4 Bonus Tracks
Paul Revere & The Raiders: Mark Lindsay (vocals); Paul Revere (organ, keyboards); Phil "Fang" Volk,
Mike "Smitty" Smith, Drake Levin, Jim "Harpo" Valley.
Producers: Terry Melcher, Roger Hart.
Compilation producer: Bob Irwin.Alternative Press (4/00, p.96) - "..
.With their...effervescent hooks, soaring choruses and indelible melodies,
the Raiders remind us of a time when popularity and quality weren't ipso facto mutually exclusive concepts."

Axis: Bold As Love CD
by Jimi Hendrix
Our Price: $9.79
Usually ships in 1-2 days
There are still plenty of powerful blues/rock-inflected songs, such as the menacing "If 6 Was 9,"
the rolling "Spanish Castle Magic" and the spatial title tune. But "Up From The Skies" is a jazzy trio romp,
featuring Hendrix's bluesy, vocalized wah-wah pedal. And on the ballads "Little Wing" and "Castles Made Of
Sand," Hendrix shifts the focus from the band to the silvery chord/melody accompaniments he often employed
to complement his vocals. They are an orchestral effect unto themselves.
This 1997 reissue of AXIS: BOLD AS LOVE is a newly remastered version that restores the original album artwork.
It includes a 24-page booklet with previously-unpublished photos and song lyrics. It is among the first batch
of albums on Experience Hendrix, a new label controlled by Hendrix's family.
AXIS: BOLD AS LOVE was the follow-up to ARE YOU EXPERIENCED? It represented a much more conscious use of the recording studio's possibilities.
Where his live shows continued to showcase the raw rocking power of the Experience, the recording studio gave Hendrix the composer/arranger
a broader palette.Rolling Stone (12/11/03, p.116) - Ranked #82 in Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums Of All Time" - "...
Like Hendrix, AXIS was cryptic and bewitching..."
The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Jimi Hendrix (vocals, electic guitar); Noel Redding (vocals, bass); Mitch Mitchell (drums, background vocals).

Very Best Of The Rascals CD
by Rascals
Our Price: $6.09
Usually ships in 1-2 days
A satisfying budget-priced compilation, THE VERY BEST OF THE RASCALS is as good as any (Young) Rascals
compilation out there. While Rhino's two-disc ANTHOLOGY 1965-1972
has it beat in terms of comprehensiveness, these 16 tracks, from their first hit "Ain't Gonna Eat My Heart
Out Anymore" to their last chart success "See," are the cream of the crop.
All of the hits are here, naturally, including "Good Lovin'," "People Got To Be Free," the superlative
"How Can I Be Sure," and of course their biggest hit, "Groovin'." The lesser-known singles and key album
tracks, like "A Girl Like You" and "I've Been Lonely Too Long," are nearly the equal of the hits, and
overall, this is as solid a collection of '60s blue-eyed soul as you'll find.
Compilation producer: Gary Stewart.
The Rascals: Felix Cavaliere (vocals, organ, piano); Eddie Brigati (vocals, congas, percussion); Gene Cornish
(guitars, bass, background vocals); Dino Danelli (drums).
Producers: The Rascals, Tom Dowd, Arif Mardin.
Recorded from 1965 to 1972. Includes liner notes by Parke Puterbaugh.

Abbey Road CD
by Beatles
Our Price: $16.15
Usually ships in 1-2 days
After the laborious disorganization and infighting that characterized early 1969's LET IT BE sessions (as famously captured on film),
the fractious four were willing to let George Martin take the reins and to work with him as a cohesive unit for the much more
succinct production of their (and the decade's) swan song, ABBEY ROAD. The superb performances make the album an artistic
high point for all members of the group. Paul McCartney inspired the suite of songs that begins with "You Never Give Me
Your Money." Often thought of as two long medleys, the songs that fill most of the second half of ABBEY ROAD segue
seamlessly into one another, but are programmed as separate CD tracks. George Harrison had his first A-side on a Beatles'
single ("Something"); John Lennon contributed a pair of heavy rockers ("Come Together" and "I Want You");
and Ringo Starr's "Octopus's Garden" was a favorite with children.
The Beatles: Paul McCartney (vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass); John Lennon (vocals, guitar, keyboards); George Harrison (vocals, guitar, synthesizer);
Ringo Starr (vocals, drums, percussion).Rolling Stone (12/11/03, p.94) - Ranked #14 in Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums Of All Time" -
"...Superb songs cut with an attention to refined detail, then segued together with conceptual force..."
Q (6/00, p.78) - Ranked #17 in Q's "100 Greatest British Albums" - "The last Beatles LP to be recorded...it [has] extremely well-drilled
and elaborate song structures....the quick-fire 8 track medley starting with 'You Never Give Me Your Money' and ending with 'The End' is
unprecedented in rock..."
ABBEY ROAD, recorded in the summer of 1969, was the last album recorded by the Beatles
(LET IT BE was released in 1970, but recorded in early '69).

Greatest Hits CD
by Jay & The Americans
Our Price: $7.75
Usually ships in 1-2 days
Nice price 10 track collection from Collectables featuring top selling hits like 'She Cried' & 'Only In America'. 2003.
Greatest Hits is a budget-priced, ten-track selection of some of Jay & the Americans' hits, and while there
are plenty of essential items missing, it still functions as a good, affordable sampler, featuring such hits
as "She Cried," "Come a Little Bit Closer," "Think of the Good Times," "Crying," "This Magic Moment," and
"Walkin' in the Rain." The 2003 Collectables reissue has the same track list as the 1992 CEMA Special Markets
release but sports different packaging.~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
As far as it goes, this 26-minute CD is pretty good, as a sort of bite-sized account of the group's chart hits
-- about the same length and ten songs that an oldies station might program in a "special" on the group's
history. The mastering is better than decent, which is a surprise, as this release pre-dates the general
upgrade that began in the mid-'90s -- the group's tracks always translated well to CD, in any era of the
format, and only "She Cried" doesn't quite measure up to the quality of the rest. There are no notes at all,
not a surprise considering the seven dollar list price, but if this material isn't reasonably self-explanatory,
then there's no '60s rock music that is. ~ Bruce Eder
