The four works contained on this disc span a twelve year period (1981-1993) in my compositional output and represent a broad range of styles and musical concerns. Consistent in all these pieces is a deep lyricism which is supported by the contrast and flow between consonant and dissonant harmonic worlds. My early student works were especially influenced by the process-oriented Minimalism as found in the early works of Reich or Glass; as time passed, the lyricism and stylistic freedom that is so essential to my work came more to the fore, particularly as I embraced a diverse range of musical influences in the years following graduate study at Yale School of Music.

As an afterthought to putting together this collection, I have to say that strangely I have never really considered myself to be a “songwriter.” Insofar as songwriting is a craft that one practices by listening to, and learning from others in a deliberate way, I don’t think I really do that. All I know is that for as long as I can remember my head has been constantly filled with melodies, noises and fragments of music. They are more or less always there. When I happen to be at home or near a piano, the odd seed might get put down. Once in awhile that seed becomes something more.

I was born in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada. I began playing the guitar at age 12. After high school I attended the "Toronto Conservatory of Music". My first compostion was written in 1976 "Fioretti".
I compose for the classical and steel string guitar. To date I have completed 3 albums "The Spaces Between", Errington Way" and just recently "Imprints". I live on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada, with my partner Brandy and our 2 cats, Chili and Wallace.
