 | DAKAH: unfinished symphony Yes, I know you have heard it a hundred times before- "Are you sick of the same old stuff? Want something different?" But this time, you can be sure you actually WILL get something that bends the mind. Try a 60 piece orchestra doing sophisticated Hip Hop and Soul. In Dakah's Unfinished Symphony, you can't help but admire their daring approaches and free-thinking conception, complete with track names like, "Pissitissimo" and "Adagio Asiago." What can I say? I was floored with this album. You will be too. |
 | YEJIDE THE NIGHT QUEEN: seventh A more political Zap Mama. The groovy twin of India Arie. The lost sister of Michael Franti. This is female fronted, socially conscious, sophisticated hip hop for the most discriminating of esoteric, urban music fans. If the names Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill perk your ears, don't waste a moment tuning in. Woven with trippy jazz and soul-ripplin' r&b, these highly infectious beats, highly stimulating lyrics bordering on spoken word poetry and highly electric grooves that tweak the mind as well as the body, combine for one stunning album. In other words, "Damn, girl!" |
 | BLACK DYNASTY: reality check "Oakland G-Funk" west coast laced with tasty r&b for all-around heavily grooved, infectious urban 'reality rap.' With their own story to tell, from their modest beginnings in the late 1980's to the long and challenging trip of losing a brother to violence, Black Dynasty is bringin' it to you straight from Cali. |
 | OPUS AKOBEN: raw life Driven by hot rhymes, topics ya'll can relate to and multi-influential, jazzy urban grooves, you could very well call this "funk-hop." Turning their back on the genre cliches, these innovative boys know how to put together some slammin', unbound hip hop. It takes a lot these days to catch the ears of discriminating hip hop listeners who want something out of the ordinary and Opus Akoben delivers more than enough. Their beats are infectious and rather than club you over the head with the same old bass, they go for a more sophisticated approach: sheer stylistic appeal. |
