  •  The Bill Carrera CD Reviews

Welcome to the EvO:R Carrera Reviews Section.
I would like to take a few minutes to introduce myself to everyone. My name is Bill Carrera and I am the new music reviewer here at Evor. I wanted to let you know a little about my thoughts on music. It's important to let the people that I review know how I think of and listen to music.
First of all I believe that if your music sucks then the world should know about it! After all, you have the nerve to charge as much for your stuff as the majors do so it better be pretty damn good, and if it is, I'll also tell the world. I'll hold nothing back!

     Review of Tradition -
    by Wes Tucker

This review could have went several different ways. There was only one way that it could have eventually come out, but at a glance, and we do eat with our eyes first, I'm usually enlightened of style/gaunder of an artist/band simply by the product that falls out of the box/envelope on my desk. When this cd hit my desk, I was afraid I might have to use that dreaded "S" word. You know, that word that most every artist/band would rather pay someone else's doctor bill than hear associated with their music. That word that makes most musicians cringe at the mere thought this label could be added, or associated, like a curse on their name or career forever. That terrible word SAFE. Ah! Had you going there for a moment didn't I.

I should elabarate. Reviewers get very few middle of the road products. They are either very safe, or politically correct if you prefer, or they are so far left-wing in hopes that you will be shocked and disturbed that it's riddiculas. Bare with me, this has a point. Safe product in itself, suggest that the artist/band is making a conscious effort not to upset anyone, makes the assumption that everyone on the planet is a prude. Far left stuff on the other hand, has a desire of shaking things up, but more times than not comes off like a Jan Brady middle child cry of help. Both of which could be taken personally or considered insulting if applied as if in a judgemental way toward the listener. This will all make scense in a minute.

Upon carefull examination of Wes Tucker's cd, I've drawn a conclusion that this isn't a PC/safe effort. Cover, cd, music, lyrics, and style, all of this reveals exactly who Wes Tucker is. No smoke screens here. If I were asked to describe Mr. Tucker, and I suppose I have been, I would find myself saying that he's the kind of person I've always wanted as a neighbor. In case you haven't caught on yet, this is a very revealing compact disc.

When I put this disc in my stereo, I'm not lying when I say my jaw was glad the floor was there to stop it. WOW! I even said it backwards, WOW! Wes, that's one amazing production you got there. Hat's off mastering engineer. Don't know what you charged, but you were worth every cent.

Tradition is one of those rare albums that bring it's own atmosphere with it. The musicianship is supurb. Each instrument's tone is emaculately well placed in the mix, flat-top, bass, drums, which are tuned perfectly in pitch, all complamenting Wes's vocals as if almost un-believable. One guy telling another guy that he has a beautiful voice is not the kind of thing that one guy says too another guy. I will use my get out of jail free card and take that exception here. The vocals are well placed, wonderfully phrased, emotionally truthfull and well complemented by what could only be a Les Paul playing those bluesy lead lines, and really shines when that fasel inductor wah pedal kicks in.

The songwriting is what it's all about. None of the above would have taken place if the songwriting was lack-luster. In case you haven't guessed by now, Tradition is all about the song right down with the delivery, which is absolutely flawless through what I can only compare with the Doobie Brothers Black Water acoustic style mixed with a Riders on the Storm atmosphere minus the B3 and all that gloom. This is a relaxing joyous piece of work. Reminds me alot of Eli, only much better. Sorry Eli. Your still a mainstay in my player, but now you have competition.

    Samples from the CD:
    /What I Have /Spoken Word /It Wont Be Long/
    /Redeemed /Tradition /Remain /Left Behind /Lead Me On /Out of My Hands/
    /Come Home To Me /Leota /Tides /Good Night/

Conclusion: Do you read the Bible much Wes? I can tell. As a matter of fact, it's obvious you are one of the few that understands it the way it was meant to be understood. Wes Tucker's Tradition delivers a clear positive message in an un-preachy, non-judgemental, un-accusing, uplifting way. That's cool. I could not possible recommend Wes Tucker's Tradition album more. With great pride I say, no "s" word of any form could possibly be used in this review.
