  •  The Bill Carrera CD Reviews

Welcome to the EvO:R Carrera Reviews Section.
I would like to take a few minutes to introduce myself to everyone. My name is Bill Carrera and I am the new music reviewer here at Evor. I wanted to let you know a little about my thoughts on music. It's important to let the people that I review know how I think of and listen to music.
First of all I believe that if your music sucks then the world should know about it! After all, you have the nerve to charge as much for your stuff as the majors do so it better be pretty damn good, and if it is, I'll also tell the world. I'll hold nothing back!

     Rise Up -
    by Roots Of Creation

What do you get when you mix two parts reggae, one part rock and sprinkle in some hip-hop? You get a band called Roots of Creation a Northeastern band that has done everything right.

Everything Right, because they have taken this music business serious. They have formed their own record label, toured continuously, released two studio albums, signed with In The Pocket Artists booking agency and gotten world wide music distribution.

One thing that I would like to mention....The bands package that I received was one of the best packages to arrive in my mail box from any indie artist. I say that because out of 45 new CD's that I have to review I picked this one first because of the packaging. It was professional and detailed with information about the band, reviews, and commentary and believe it or not, I read everything. The band bio's and interviews helped me to better understand what the band was trying to say with every song. I can only wish that other bands would do the same.

The CD "Rise Up" was recorded at N.H's Studio Metronome with Pete Peloquin. Peloquin has worked with Oasis, The Pixies, New Order, The Hives as well as Marky Mark. The work shows that the band took the time to make sure every detail was covered before releasing the album.

I give the production quality an A and the content a solid B+. The only reason I say B+ is the fact that I really don't care for the style of music but I have to admit, the song "Breathe It - Exhale" is still in my head and I find myself humming the melody daily!

I must admit that I am very impressed with the bands writing and overall musicianship. The lyrics are well thought out and make a statements. From the politically charge commentary (although not overpowering) to the simple legalization of the noble weed the band makes a statement on every song.

Nothing is left to chance and they really do take the world of raggae and raise the bar two or three notches. The late Bob Marley would be proud of this bands hard work and the fact that they helped elevates the genre.

    Samples from the CD:

    /Rise Up! /Dubomb /Death March /Babylon /Proggae/
/(A) Peace Love and Music /(B) Dubwagon XL /(C) Revolution/
    /Universal Soldier /Legalize and Tax It /Breathe It - Exhale/
    /Can't Stop /New Classic /Made For Me /Void /Sorry, I Had To Go/

    Conclusion:
My only conclusion is a simple one...Buy this CD! It's a great lesson in musicianship and keeping it simple in the studio and not letting the studio dominate the song. This CD will be added to the EvO:R Top 25 Indie CD's of all time. That list of CD's will be posted November 25th 2007. Be on the look out as we have some great Independent CD's to promote..
