The Bill Carrera CD Reviews
Welcome to the EvO:R Carrera Reviews Section.
I would like to take a few minutes to introduce myself to everyone. My name is Bill
Carrera and I am the new music reviewer here at Evor. I wanted to let you know a little
about my thoughts on music. It's important to let the people that I review know how I
think of and listen to music. First of all I believe that if your music sucks then
the world should know about it! After all, you have the nerve to charge as much for
your stuff as the majors do so it better be pretty damn good, and if it is, I'll also
tell the world. I'll hold nothing back!

The Review
Many years ago I joined the EvO:R organization because I knew the founder and had the privilege
of working with him on a couple musical projects. One huge advantage of being a reviewer is the
fact that I get to listen to a variety of music from many genres. This exposure has awakened my musical
palette and has inspired me to look beyond my hard rock roots and seek out other forms of musical expression.
One form of expression that has been exciting to me has been the music created by masters of the didgeridoo.
I've reviewed Karl Kalbaugh, Star Birth and now LogRhythm Music all of which have featured this
ancient Aboriginal Australian instrument. Until I reviewed these CD's I gave the instrument no thought and simply
did not understand what it could add to the world of modern music.
What these fine artists have all proven to me is that this fine misunderstood instrument could be used
in all kinds of music. Kalbaugh use the instrument in a world/jazz idiom and the instrument flourished
while blending with the many modern marvels of today's musical world. Starbirth music which was featured on many
Best of EvO:R compilations featured the didgeridoo in a synthesized world of mystic, spatial sonic brilliance.
Now we get a CD from LogRhythm Music featuring the instrument in a more ambient environment.
LogRhythm Music has no drummer, it's not pop or rock in nature. It's simply nature with a didgeridoo,
a synthesizer, a few additional instruments, a cat purring and the use of vocals from time to time. The music is air-o-matic, clean, simple and sleepy. Yes, sleepy! Ambient music
is designed to allow the listener to relax and forget about the big meeting at work, or the job interview, the
house payment and doctor bills. The music is designed to allow you to simply relax and this CD can do just that.
The CD is based around animals as you can see by the song titles below and Pinky's Delight is one
of my favorites as it features Pinky (the cat) purring to a backdrop of wonderful sounds. I also loved the picture
on the inside sleeve with Pinky purring into a microphone. I don't even like cats and I liked this song.
A new instrument is introduced on this CD. It's called "the Hang." It's a relatively new Swiss
instrument fashioned after the steel drum and played by Eileen Hultquist. Per Hultquist is the
man behind the didjeridoo (and I strongly recommend the use of headphones because the right to left panning is amazing)
while Tessalin Green provides synth and vocals.
No CD is complete without a few special quests and this is no exception as Tony Zappitelli provides some guitar work and
Francesa Troiani adds vocals to Earth Aurora.
In conclusion, I can only give this ambient CD my highest recommendation as it puts me to sleep every time I
play it. Good thing I wasn't driving.

The Songs
1. Elephant Dream
Imagine elephants walking across an expansive dreamscape, heads and trunks
rhythmically swaying to a silent rhythm. This improvisation features Per’s elephant-sized
low G didgeridoo.
2. Flutterby Butterfly
Brings forth images of beautiful multicolored butterflies gracing our airways, so
delicate and precious as they flutter by this way and that, tickling the heart and
making us giggle.
3. Pinky’s Lullaby
Gently relax into serenity with Pinky’s rhythmic purring vibrations. Pinky’s
attentive purring presence was an important part of Per’s recovery from surgery.
This wonderful vibration is a gift of healing to be shared.
4. Whale Talk
Whales inspire us from great distances with their deep, profound energy. As
Humpbacks change their songs each year, so we have created this piece as a
sequel to our song, Whales, from the first Brain Massage album.
5. Fox Delight
Reminds us of the fox family that lived under a shed in our yard in spring and
summer. We were delighted to witness many playful scenes of the 6 kits growing
up and hearing their calls in the night.
6. Biggie's Song
A two part song featuring a loving tribute to the nine year span of Per's relatinship with an
Alpha-buck mule deer named Biggie.
7. Earth Aurora
A multifaceted soundscape with didjeridu, vocals and synthesizer that paints sonic pictures oof nagnificent auroras.
