  •  The Bill Carrera CD Reviews

Welcome to the EvO:R Carrera Reviews Section.
I would like to take a few minutes to introduce myself to everyone. My name is Bill Carrera and I am the new music reviewer here at Evor. I wanted to let you know a little about my thoughts on music. It's important to let the people that I review know how I think of and listen to music.
First of all I believe that if your music sucks then the world should know about it! After all, you have the nerve to charge as much for your stuff as the majors do so it better be pretty damn good, and if it is, I'll also tell the world. I'll hold nothing back!

     Don Moore

Don Moore has always been a fan of the 80’s hard rock guitarists George Lynch, Chris Olivia, and Jake E. Lee. Later he was introduced to the guitar works of master solo artists such as Andy Timmons, Eric Johnson, and Joe Satriani. It was then that Don’s love for music, his respect for these musicians took over, and his passion for playing guitar evolved.

Prior to recieving Don's CD I went to his page on CD Baby to sample his work. After hearing the samples I was looking forward to getting this CD to hear how Don put his songs together because the samples on CD Baby where just guitar solo's.

When the CD arrived I was dissapointed to find out that the whole CD was simply a collection of guitar solo's and not a complete work of songs. Don teamed with drummer Todd Sorensen for this CD and he mixed and produced the offering himself. Final mastering was done by Emery Mastering. The sound quality was excellent and my cap is tipped for great production work and a full sound stage upon playback. I just wished the CD was not a guitar solo sampler.

Now don't get me wrong, Don is a great solo guitarist and he has the pentetonics down to a science but music that doesn't complete a sentence is more like a demo offering then a completed work. Had I been looking for a guitar player for my band and I got this sample of solo's I would know that Don can play and I would have been pleased to know that Don took the time to get to the meat and potatoes of every song with this sampler but this package was offered as a completed work (and it is not).

In the future I would like to hear Don doing completed songs and not just a solo because what makes a great musician is how he/she completes the full story. I would also like to hear Don get out of the same sound rut that many guitarists go through. Almost every solo was played with the same guitar settings and that creates a listener fatique when the guitar sounds the same on almost every song. His inspirations listed above had many sounds in their arsonal and where willing to pull them out at a moments notice and it would be great to have Don work on this during future projects.

Don is a great solo guitar player and this CD proves it. If anyone wants an 80's style axe slinger for their band they should get in touch with Don today. If you like the work of bands like Scorpions, Poison, Rat and many of the great 80's power rock bands Don is your man...
